Welcome back to the Target Zone:
March is here and the hectic pace within our industry and this facility continues. Our new employees joined the team and certainly hit the ground running. Thank you for welcoming them and for your patience as we continue to strive to serve you better. The demand for ammunition continues to surpass the supply. We have leveraged our brass supply by getting loaded ammunition in return for the 55 gallon drums of expended brass we collect.
Until we see an end to the range ammo shortage we will continue to limit sales of ammunition for use in the facility only. Thank you for your understanding on this matter as we must ensure that range users always have ammunition to shoot when they come to CTS.
You may have noticed the installation of 12 additional cameras in and around the facility. We now have two big screen TV's over POS #2. One TV will display live images of the firing line. We now have 1 color/infrared camera for every two shooting lanes. The other TV will display a sampling of our security cameras located throughout the facility.
Our rental counter selection continues to grow along with the demand for our Try Before You Buy policy. Just last week alone we added an additional 22 handguns to the rental case. These are some of the newest and most difficult handguns to find. We now have the S&W Shield in 9mm and 40cal and the Springfield XDS to name a few. Be sure to check out the gun rental counter next time you're in. Remember, members get gun rentals for free!
If you have younger shooters in your family we now have the "Ian" platform available for you to use. The platform was inspired by a young man named Ian who is tall enough for our range but a bit too short to shoot over the shooter's bench. I built the platform so younger shooters will have a safe and stable place to enjoy the experience of shooting. Just ask one of our employees to help you move it into your stall if you have a youngster who needs a little extra height.

A Word About Our Classes
As you know our classes are just about 100% sold out every month . We understand the wait for a class date can be frustrating and we are working to eleviate this as much as possible. We have added classes to every day the range was available. We have cancelled 90% of our LE range contracts and now offer the range to LE on a daily basis only when available. This will give our members and our training programs priority. In addition, we are in the final stages of completing Keith's instructor training and his addition to the training staff will help out tremendously.
Why are our classes so popular? I believe the reasons are many. Allow me to share what so many of you have told us. I know there are many places to train in our area. As you know I have always encouraged students to take quality training at every opportunity. I believe we are all the products of our experiences and a diversity of QUALITY training makes us all better.
The selfish benefit to me is that taking these other classes (some local and some hundreds of miles away) confirms in the student's mind just how good our training really is. So often I have heard, " It was a good class, but no better than Center Target Sports and you are a lot cheaper and I don't have to travel!"
I believe the fact that we allow you to repeat any class previously completed forever for free speaks volumes. I know of no better way to prove our commitment to your training, subject understanding, and task performance. Let's not forget the additional benefit of having my services in the courtroom for free, God forbid you ever need them, if you take your CCW class from us.
Do we hold you to a higher training standard? You bet we do. I remember 8 years ago a number of local instructors laughed at the thought of me requiring CCW students to shoot a qualification course and sit in class for 7 hours. Many laughed because we were the first to bring the Utah CCW program to Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana. We feel more committed to the higher standard of training we offer now more than ever due in no small part to the over 9,400 students that have completed our training.
Thank you for supporting us and thank you for your patience in waiting for a class date. I can assure you it will be worth the wait. Don't believe me... Compare our programs to anyone else anywhere in the country and see for yourself.

Class sign-ups...a side note: We short the website several spots in each class so we don't overbook. So if the web says a class is full, call the range to confirm, there might be one or two spots availaible.

We Buy Used Guns and will be happy to sell your gun on consignment for you. We try to keep a large selection of used guns on hand, but we are selling new and used guns as fast we can get them in. So the time has never been better for you to get cash out of that firearm that is just collecting dust.
It will cost you nothing to bring it in and get an idea on what value your firearm has. Just see Cam or Ken or Ed.

A Note from Peggy:
Every month we remind you that Center Target Sports continues to be a collection point for used cell phones and toiletries for the Post Falls Women's shelter (OASIS). I just want to say thank you for the incredible outpouring of generous donations for this worthy cause. The number of toiletries, phones, hats, PJ's, robes, slippers and toiletry bags has been overwhelming. Our customers are the best! If you're traveling and have checked luggage, collect all those unused bottles in your hotel bathroom and bring them back for us to donate to OASIS. Every little bit helps. Thank you. CTS is the ONLY one collecting for the Shelter and I'm proud to be making monthly deliveries.

Molded Ears
Stephanie has received a number of new colors for our Molded Ears program AND we now have a number of people on staff who can make these comfortable molded ears. It just takes a few minutes of your time and you will receive the best hearing protection available. Our Molded Ears are also guaranteed for life.
Insta-Mold earplugs have been used for recreation for over thirty years providing an excellent solution for people looking for the best protection against water and/or loud noise levels such as shotgun blasts, wind-noise, music and power tools.
Made from a medical grade, hypo-allergenic silicone, Insta-Mold earplugs offer the ultimate in comfort because they are custom shaped to each individual's ears. This eliminates the amount of discomfort usually faced with the common expanding foam earplugs, and the constant hassles of bulky earmuffs. Insta-Mold ears also remain flexible and soft throughout their lifetime giving you several years of consistent use.
By obtaining this ultimate fit, Insta-Mold's achieve the best attainable NRR rating, and provide the maximum in hearing protection for the individual user. Below is the actual noise attenuation chart preformed by one of the most reputable testing facilities in the world. It accurately displays the amount of protection you will receive from a properly fit set of Insta-Mold's through the common frequency spectrum.
Points to remember when getting fit for a pair of Insta-Mold's...
- For maximum results, your Insta-Molds should be made with a syringe by a qualified provider.
- Insta-Mold ear protection is virtually non-shrinkable and can be used in a variety of noise or water related activities.
- Unlike other imitations, Insta-Molds use a "Seal-Kote" to add luster and provides a "skin" to protect the mold against dirt and grime.
- For growing ears in children and adults, Insta-Molds can be made tighter by reapplying an Insta-Seal coating to the outside of the earplugs.
- Insta-Molds are hypoallergenic and nontoxic to normal skin containing a special salt complex that works as an antiseptic astringent and fungicide.
- Insta-Molds are known for providing a reliable "tissue-to-tissue" fit that duplicates every crevice and contour of the ear.
- Only Insta-Mold silicones are reinforced with the highest levels of hydrophobic (water repelling) organo-siloxane groups.
- Insta-Mold was worn by the first U.S. Gold Medallist in the U.S. Summer Olympics, Atlanta, Georgia, 1996.
- The Insta-Mold process is the only proven and accepted procedure published in the Archives of Otolaryngology. No other instant system can make this claim. Kasden, M.A., Robinson, M.D., "Fabrication of Custom-Made Ear Plugs for Swimming" Archive Otolaryngology, Volume 100, July 1974.

Guest Instructors Coming Back to CTS!!
By now you know how serious we take our training. Their are only two instructors that I have ever allowed to teach in our facility. This year we have both of these professionals here doing what they do best. I truly believe that Michael Janich and John Farnam are the best in the world at what they do. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the "Best of the Best"!
Michael Janich is back June 29-30
Counter-Blade Concepts Seminar
In this two-day seminar, Michael Janich will present detailed instruction in his Counter-Blade Concepts (CBC) system of empty-hand defenses against edged-weapon attacks. This street-proven system begins by defining the threat with a detailed video analysis of actual knife attacks. It then presents a progressive series of skills designed to significantly enhance your survivability against both ballistic and static knife attacks. The CBC system functions as both a stand-alone unarmed skill set and as a critically important complement to weapon-based personal-defense.
This seminar will include step-by-step instruction in the critical skills of the CBC system and methods of integrating them into contact-distance shooting tactics. It will also address the use of CBC against other weapon threats, including firearms and impact weapons, and its use as a foundation for knife tactics. Students should bring purpose-designed training knives, eye protection, and a blue gun, airsoft, or other inert training pistol with holster.
The price for this class is $300 and is non-refundable. This class does not fall under the "forever for free" policy at CTS.
Counter Blade Concepts
John Farnam is coming back Aug 2-4
Defensive Hand Gun
The DTI Defensive Handgun Course is designed to prepare the responsible, adult gun owner to handle, maintain, safely store, and use their firearm safely, responsibly, correctly, and effectively, so that they are able to successfully handle nearly any personal protection situation.
An increasing number of people are seeking to improve their defensive shooting skills and expand their knowledge about the use of firearms for personal protection.
Here in the United States, many states are currently expanding access to concealed carry permits. DTI classes offer permit holders and those who are considering applying for a permit an opportunity to learn how to properly and safely carry a concealed handgun and to understand the laws regarding the use of lethal force for personal protection.
The course will consist of classroom lecture/demonstration and live-fire exercises on the range.
Classroom instruction includes:
- Situation Awareness
- Threat Evaluation
- The Force Continuum
- Courtroom Savvy
- The Physio/Psychological Aspects of Lethal Encounters.
Live-fire exercises on the range include:
- Threat evaluation
- Risk identification and reduction
- Lethal threat containment and management
- Precision shooting
- Discretionary shooting
- Low-light shooting (with and without a flashlight)
- Cover and movement
- Performing under stress
Tactical training is conducted in a realistic manner, stressing correct use of cover, movement, challenges, and other important individual tactics. In addition, students will practice close and extremely close encounters and weapon control.
The price for this class is $625 and is non-refundable. This class does not fall under the "forever for free" policy at CTS. Tuition can be paid by cash or check only with checks being made out to John Farnam.

We need your help! Over the years many of you have said you would like to help us when we schedule a "Work Day" at the facility. Well, now is the time.
We will be closed all day on May 6th for a work day. The 5:30 pm "keychain/kubotan defense" class will be offered as scheduled. During the day we will be cleaning, painting, adjusting, refurbishing and who knows what else. If you have some time to spare and want to spend it with a great group of people we could use your help. We will provide lunch, direction and plenty of appreciation.
Please contact Stephanie to volunteer for our May 6th maintenance day. Knowing who's coming and what areas you would like to help out with will allow us to better schedule the day's activities. Thank you in advance for your support.

Proposed Enhanced ID CCW permit
House Bill 192, by the House State Affairs Committee, would create an enhanced concealed carry license option for those applicants who choose to undergo additional training for more carry benefits. It is said this enhanced concealed carry license would help increase recognition of Idaho's permit in other states, meaning permit holders might soon be able to carry a firearm for self-defense in more places when traveling outside of Idaho.
I am not convinced that this is the case. Don't miss understand me. I am very much for a shooting requirement to obtain a CCW permit. Some of you may see this as additional gun control. I am not for additional gun control. I believe in and support the 2 Amendment without any reservation or limit. However, I also would like Idaho to be the most honored state in the USA. Heck, I would love it if Washington State would honor Idaho.
I believe that removing the 18 year old possibility and requiring a shooting qualification to the existing Idaho permit requirements would guarantee the widest possible acceptance. In fact if this were done today as best we can tell Idaho would be honored by at least 37 states.
If this enhanced permit is approved the way it is presently proposed the Idaho Enhanced permit would not be honored by any additional states without some legislative changes being made by those (additional states). What is the motivation to these states to now adjust their acceptance laws to accommodate a multi level Idaho permit process. In addition, look at the confusion such a multi level permit process creates for the individual officers of those states when they encounter an Idahoan on the street.
The enhanced permit would require several additional instruction requirements above the current permit training, including 8 hours of training by a certified instructor in the principles of self-defense, self-defense law, and the proper use of a defensive handgun. HB 192's enhanced concealed carry license would fulfill more of the reciprocity or recognition requirements set by permit-issuing authorities in states around the country, therefore improving the chances that Idaho's permit holders will soon be able to carry a firearm for self-defense in more states. Idaho's current concealed carry license system would remain unchanged and residents would still have the option to apply for the regular carry license.
I believe Idahoans would be much better served if the Idaho permit was one level and administered with the two changes as proposed in the HB192. We would all be able to carry in more states with a lot less confusion, and a lot less legislative and administrative requirements on Idaho and the reciprocal states as well. |

Welcome our 2 new employees
We continue to grow our staff to best serve your needs. Who would have thought that our staff would ever grow to 13 employees. This is only a reality because of the tremendous loyality and support of our patrons. Peggy and I along with our entire staff are very greatful to to all of you for your continued support.
We take the process of hiring staff members very seriously and we always strive for the best. The best is what I believe we have in our two newest employees. Both Dennis and Duane each bring unique qualities and great people skills to our staff. Please take the time to introduce yourself and help us make them feel welcome.
Meet Dennis Mader,
Dennis and his family moved to Idaho about 20 years ago after his retirement as a Special Agent, for the State Attorney General's office. During this time he was also a district firearms/ training officer, and was certified by the FBI in their training methods. He is a graduate of the CHP, DOJ, and the DEA National Academies, and holds many POST certificates.
We are particularly excited about the tremendous Antique Firearms knowledge Dennis brings to CTS. He is a long time student of historical firearms and their development, which has continued to today as a pastime and a real interest, so if you have any questions about that old or vintage firearm, please ask him. He is a Co founder of SASS, Cowboy Action Shooting.
Dennis is a member of the following:
 Cody Museum
 Sharps Collectors Association Co Founder/Life
 Colt Collectors Association
Single Action Shooting Society Co Founder/Life
 NRA Life
Meet Duane Wilcox
Duane grew up in Spokane and Elk, Washington. He is a fulltime Firefighter for Spokane City and previously served in the US Navy for 7 years as a Firefighter/Search and Rescue team during Desert Storm/Desert Shield.
He has been a rifle shooter for many years and has recently added Glock 19 to his arsenal. He and his family enjoy camping, spending time at the lake, dirt bike riding, mud bog racing, competing in car shows, target shooting, as well as snowmobiling, and skiing in the winter.
Duane is married to his beautiful wife for 16 years, together they have 3 beautiful daughters who are all looking forward to improving their shooting.

Monthly Tip!
Diagnostics To Some Common Shooting Errors
Most of the shooting errors I see at the range are a failure to properly apply the two most important shooting fundamentals: sight alignment and trigger press. However, other factors may also cause a shooter to have problems in properly delivering a shot to the target. The shooting situations listed below assume that the handgun and ammunition are functioning correctly, that the handgun sights are adjusted properly and that the shooter is right-handed. The shot groups for a left handed shooter will appear on the opposite side from the shot groups as described here. Here are some possible causes to your misses if you are aiming for the center of the target but, are producing hits in the specific quadrants called out below. SHOTS in Lower Left Quadrant: This pattern is caused when the shooter jerks the trigger, causing the front-sight to dip low and to the left before the bullet leaves the barrel. To correct this type of error, the trigger must be slowly pressed until the shot fires, being careful while pressing not to disturb the sight alignment and sight-picture. SHOTS in 9 o'clock position: This pattern is created when the shooter does not properly place the index finger on the trigger. In such cases, the shooter has a tendency to press the trigger at an angle instead of straight to the rear. This improper press causes the muzzle to shift to the left, with the shots striking in the 8:30 to 9:30 zone. SHOTS in Upper Left Quadrant: This is caused by 'riding the recoil'. This is where the shooter anticipates the recoil and makes the handgun recoil before it really happens. This type of pattern can also be caused by improper follow-through. The shooter releases the trigger finger too soon and may flip the finger forward, causing the front-sight to rise to the left. Errors of this nature will usually produce shots in the 9:30 to 12 o'clock zone. SHOTS in Upper Right Quadrant: Here the shooter has 'heeled' the shots high on the target. This error is caused by anticipating the shot and, at the last moment before firing, giving the handgun a slight push with the heel of the hand. The front-sight moves up to the right and the bullets strike the target in the 1 o'clock to 2:30 zone. SHOTS in the 3 o'clock position: Here the shooter 'thumbs' the handgun. Just as the shot begins, the shooter pushes the right thumb against the side of the frame, causing the aligned sights to move to the right. SHOTS in the Lower Right Quadrant: This target illustrates what happens when a shooter's grip tightens as the trigger is pressed. This target area is known as the 'lobster' area - just as a lobster's claw clamps together, the shooter's hand clamps or snatches at the last second. This movement causes the front-sight to dip low and to the right, pushing the shots to the 3:30 to 5 o'clock zone. SHOTS directly below the point of aim: The shot string in the 5 o'clock to 6:30 area is caused when the shooter 'breaks' the wrist - another form of anticipation. The shooter expects the handgun to recoil at a known instant and tries to fight or control this anticipated recoil by cocking the wrist downward. The shooter may subconsciously believe that the recoil can be lessened by holding the wrist down. This shot group can also be caused by a shooter who relaxes too soon. SHOTS everywhere - No distinct pattern: A peppered target is often produced by a beginning shooter. A new shooter usually does not consistently repeat one particular error, but instead commits many different errors. The result is a target with shots scattered in many places. Such a target may be caused by the shooter's inconsistency, including changing the grip between shots, focusing on the target instead of the front-sight on some shots, failing to align the sights properly and so on.
