Welcome back to the Target Zone:
WOW!! What a month
We have been overwhelmed with the increased volume at the range. Thank you all for your patience. We have been averaging 24 phone calls per hour and over 150 people per day. If you call and get a recording it is because we are taking care of customers as best we can. Please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we get a break or try calling again. This is a trend that is taking the industry by storm across the country and we are no exception.
We anticipated a rush after the election but never this! We are trying to keep pace. In the last 2 months we have hired 4 new employees and made one gunsmith full time. But as I am sure you know, it takes time for our staff to adjust and for the new employees to get up to speed. That being said, I have to say that our new employees are doing a heck of a job as the older employees are doing their best to help with their training and transition.
A special thanks to all of you who have been so patient and have even pitched in at times reading range rules and helping customers find items or teaching them how to use the lane controls.
We are committed to customer service and we hope the additional personnel will help us handle the increased customer flow. If you would have asked me 2 years ago if we would ever have 16 employees, I would have laughed in your face. We now have 16 and I have learned to never say never. I have to say that quantity has not affected quality as we have so much to introduce to you this month.
Inventory In - Inventory Out
Stephanie and I continue to search for and order merchandise for our facility from anyone or any place we can find stock. Unfortunately the wholesalers are shipping product as fast as they can and can't receive and process orders fast enough to fill our shelves.
Rest assured we continue to order and every order we submit is accepted but we receive no projected ship date in return. Every day is like Christmas when the UPS driver arrives as we never know what he is bringing us. Please keep in touch and keep checking inventory as we will put as much product out as we can.
Classes Classes Classes...
We are humbled by the response to our training classes. It is unbelievable how many classes are booked full and we are trying to add more classes wherever possible. Peggy and Kelly continue to do an unbelievable job at managing the hundreds of you we have scheduled at the same time.
The word is out about our classes and our instructors and that's thanks to you the students who have experienced our training philosophy and have spread the word. We are closing in on 9,000 students certified at our facility.
On a personal note, I know you can go anywhere and take a class, but I know you can not match the training we provide anywhere else. We will never compromise our training and we live to improve our programs at every opportunity.
Please be patient, we are adding classes as fast as we can. Trust me...they are truly worth waiting for...And you can repeat them forever for FREE!
A side note: We short the website several spots in each class so we don't overbook. So if the web says a class is full, call the range to confirm, there might be one or two spots availaible.
GSSF New Times!!
We started with the Jan match and all went well with our new match time. The GSSF matches are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month. The new hours are from 9am to 1pm. Please adjust your schedules to meet the 9-1 time frame.
Member Reservations With the increased traffic at the store I want to take a moment to again remind everyone how our lane reservations work. Only members are allowed to reserve a lane. Center Target Sports sets aside 2 lanes for member reservations. In order to reserve a member must call and talk to an employee (not a voice mail or email) at least 2 hours prior to and not more than 48 hrs before desired reservation time. Please provide your member number each time. (Due to our increased customer flow it is hard to access the system to look your number up when you call.) Starting Sunday Feb 3rd, all reservations will start on the hour and will end on the hour. A reserved lane is for one hour only.
One lane can be reserved at a time unless you have a family membership which would allow you to reserve two lanes as long as they are used by members of YOUR family only. Lane reservations will be held for 10 minutes after which you will forfeit your reservation. We appreciate your compliance so all our members can benefit from this perk.
A word from SHOT
Peggy and I have returned from SHOT show and are happy to report that we found some new items to bring to the store. Finally we found the ultimate AR security rack for the home. Peggy found a new line of concealment purses and she also found a personal alarm that sounds a 110 DB siren when activated.
This is just a short tease as my staff will have my head if I talk too extensively without having the products in the store. So if all goes well, we will have inventory soon and by next month I will be able to show you pictures, provide more detail and you will be able to see the items for yourself in the store.
************************
A new IDPA group joins the CTS family. The Spokane IDPA group has asked if we would support their program during the winter months...Of course we said yes. They will be shooting here on the 4th Sunday of each month.
Our patrons will now have the opportunity to shoot IDPA 3 Sundays each month. They will be in and out of the facility on the same schedule you all are accustomed to. The majority of the time they are shooting before open to the public. 7am-11am. $10 to participate. Everyone's welcome.
Help me welcome them to the facility. Stop by and say hi or better yet shoot their course and have a great time.
*********
We Buy Used Guns and will be happy to sell your gun on consignment for you. We try to keep a large selection of used guns on hand, but we are selling new and used guns as fast we can get them in. So the time has never been better for you to get cash out of that firearm that is just collecting dust.
It will cost you nothing to bring it in and get an idea on what value your firearm has. Just see Cam or Ken or Ed.
*********************************
Center Target Sports continues to be a collection point for used cell phones and toiletries for the Post Falls Women's shelter (OASIS). Just bring in and leave with Peggy. They will also accept PJ's, robes, slippers and toiletry bags. If you're traveling and have checked luggage, collect all those unused bottles in your hotel bathroom and bring them back for us to donate to OASIS. Every little bit helps. Thank you. CTS is the ONLY one collecting for the Shelter and I'm proud to be making monthly deliveries...Peggy

Gun Vaults Flying Off the Shelves
We are ordering gun vaults in every size, style and design from every supplier we can find.
Last month we sold the equivalent of 6 months supply of firearm security products. We have some exciting new systems on their way as well. Come in and see for yourself. There is never a reason to have an unsecured firearm in your home. If you need a gun cable lock for your firearm and can't justify the cost we will give you one. Just come in and ask Stephanie, Ken or me.
Mini baton & stuck case remover -NOW IN STOCK
I have redesigned the Mini-baton and have had 100 made at a local machine shop. They are made of aluminum and will last a lifetime. These devices are perfect for removing a stuck case from your chamber. They will also keep you in the fight if you break an extractor. Yes, you will be down to a single shot pistol but that is better than nothing.
Of course they will be capable of removing a stuck case in any handgun caliber 380 and above.
YOJIMBO Knives in Stock!
We have waited almost a year for our backorder to be filled and finally we have Yojimbo knives in stock. They won't last long as we have a limited supply. This is my favorite design from the Spyderco company and it is the result of Michael Janich's design efforts.
Don't Wait For Medical Supplies
We have a full complement of Trauma / Medical Supplies in stock. These items have been very hard to come by but we finally have medical care merchandise for sale. We were able to purchase large quantities of Israeli Bandages and Tourniquets and we enjoy passing the savings along to you.
REMEMBER...We are the home of the LIFETIME Warranty and the Repeat any Class Completed Forever for FREE Policy!

Gunsmiths On Duty 65 Hrs. Per Week!
It is now official. We have added Gio to our team full time. Gio is a master gunsmith with a degree in Gunsmithing from Trinidad college. He has years of practical experience working for himself and as a master gunsmith for a firearms manufacturer. We are all so excited to have a full time gunsmith working to expand our gunsmith services. With Gio and Cam both working in our newly designed gunsmith area we will be able to better support the tremendous demand for quality gunsmith services.
Our new gunsmith department will be manned 6 days a week now. This is just another way we are trying to improve our customer service to our patrons. We have already received many comments about the quality and quick turnaround of our gunsmith services and we appreciate all those comments. Thanks for supporting us and allowing us to improve our offerings.
Speaking of Gunsmithing- Cam will be offering Duracoat and Powder Coating services at his home shop. Although these services are not part of our CTS gunsmith services I encourage you to look at the photo below and see how you could customize your special firearm. Cam has a number of colors and ideas on how to give your firearm that custom look. Stop in and ask Cam about this unique service.

The 1911 pistol to the right was customized by Cam at his home business. Do you have a gun at home that could use a facelift? Talk to Cam and imagine the possibilities. |
February Free Clinic
The February FREE clinic will be on defensive ammunition selection. If you ever wondered about the issues concerning the appropriate ammo for your particular intended use, this is the free clinic for you. Register early as I am sure this will be one of our more popular subjects.
Due to Ed's travel schedule there will NOT be a FREE Clinic in March. BE on the lookout for the April Free Clinic which promises to be a big Bang... (hint-hint)
Please call the range to reserve your spot. 208-773-2331
Do you have an idea for a free clinic? Please send your ideas to peggy@centertargetsports.com . Thank you.

Defensive Handgun I... RETAKES Only - An Experiment
The demand for Defensive I retakes has been so popular and our commitment to offer
retakes is un-questionable. We have created a "Retake Only" class that will be offered on March 17th a Sunday morning for 4hrs(8am - Noon). This is a Shooting Only class. That's right, no classroom, just an opportunity for retakes to hone their manipulation skills within a group of students that are of a similar experience. I hope this experimental form will be well received. Remember the class is limited to 10 students...first come first served!
Member Fun Shoot Interest Growing
Participation in our monthly member fun shoots continues to grow. Thank you to all our members who participate in these fun filled 'members only' nights. I love the fact that we allow the participants of the current fun night to select the topic for the next fun night. So if you want a say in the format or content of a future fun shoot make sure you come to the next fun night and see what all the excitement is about.
Next fun shoot activity will include laser simulation immediately followed by live fire. It should be a blast.. or at least a series of loud bangs!

A Word about Consignments
You may have noticed that we no longer have the four or five AR's on the consignment rack. That was my decision. When I returned from Texas I looked over the selection of consignment guns after our staff indicated that they were doing a lot of explaining to customers that the prices on the AR's were established by the gun owners, not by us.
My assessment was the same as the customers...the guns were priced way too high. I instructed the staff to contact each gun owner and tell them that we would continue to offer the guns for sale as long as the price was within 100 dollars of the blue book price. None of the owners were willing to reduce the price to what we believed was reasonable so we removed them from the shelves and returned them to the owners.
We do not want to be part of any price gouging and believe that the availability of AR's is improving as we have received 5 this week alone. All five new AR's were sold at our normal price margins and we feel this is the best way to serve you and treat everyone fair. I hope you feel the same way.

New Point Of Sale (POS)
We are excited to announce another register is open giving us 3 places in the facility to better serve you. We recognize the lines have been long and we hope that with the combination of the four new employees and this new register we can make your next visit a little easier. Our entire staff is very appreciative of your patience. |

Welcome Alana, Dan and Reagan... our newest employees!
Alana Hunt
Alana has been around CTS and helped us as a volunteer with various projects for years. We are so excited to now actually have her on staff. Ed worked with her for years on the Sheriff's department and they have been friends ever since.
Alana was born in the Northwest. She continues her Law Enforcement career as a patrol deputy with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. As I am sure you have already realized she enjoys interacting and helping people. Please take the time to introduce yourself to Alana the next time you are in our facility.
Dan Glenn
Dan came to North Idaho with his family a few years ago, via California, Arizona, and Utah, after medically retiring from law enforcement in 2004. With five active sons, and a wife who teaches fitness classes at the gym, the Glenn household is always busy. While the family left San Diego, he says they took the Zoo with them.
Dan is a great fit for us here at Center Target Sports. He brings a positive attitude, and a love for customer service. Dan is very involved in the community, and recently began working with seniors to prevent Medicare abuse and fraud. He is also a published author.
Reagan Diver
Reagan was born and raised in Texas. He retired from GM as a
District Service Manager and moved to Idaho about 10 years ago for the outdoors. He has had a love for firearms his whole life. He has a tremendous amount of experience buying, selling and repairing firearms.
He is also very good at building custom 1911's. He is an avid Trap shooter who loves to shoot with his wife. He will also jump at the opportunity to do a little fishing and spend time spoiling his granddaughter. |

TWO New Classes On Their Way
Pocket Gun / Sub-Compact Handgun Skills
This is a class that has been developed because of the tremendous number of small sub-compact handguns being used for self defense. This will be a four hour class consisting of very little classroom and will be conducted for the most part on the range. The class will emphasize the skills and techniques necessary to provide the shooter with the best possible skill sets for winning the fight on the street. Watch the calendar in June for dates and price.
Precision Rifle Course
Don't miss this opportunity to learn precision long range rifle skills. This class will be taught at the beautiful outdoor range at Fernan Rod and Gun Club. The class is designed to teach you the fundamentals of long range marksmanship as well as equipment setup and selection. Watch the calendar for date and prices.
These two classes are another way we continue to offer you cutting edge training opportunities. More detailed information will be forthcoming.

Refuse to be a Victim- March 5, May 8
Peggy continues to generate money for the Woman's advocacy program of the Post Falls police department. Most of you know that 100% of the $20.00 tuition we charge for this 4 hour class goes directly to the PFPD program. Not only are we helping the community we are providing vital personal safety info that can and will benefit every participant.
I believe the single most important factor in surviving criminal attack is to have an overall safety strategy before you need it. Our Refuse To Be A VictimŽ class taught by Peggy will teach you the personal safety tips and techniques you need to avoid dangerous situations, and avoid becoming a victim.
This is a great class for everyone, but particularly important for women and teenagers.
Here are a few of the Topic areas covered in our Refuse To Be A VictimŽ class:
- HOME SECURITY
- PARENTS AND CHILDREN
- PERSONAL SECURITY
- PERSONAL PROTECTION DEVICES
- AUTOMOBILE SECURITY
- WORKPLACE SAFETY
- TECHNOLOGICAL SECURITY
- TRAVEL SECURITY

Welcome our 2 new employees
We continue to grow our staff to best serve your needs. Who would have thought that our staff would ever grow to 13 employees. This is only a reality because of the tremendous loyality and support of our patrons. Peggy and I along with our entire staff are very greatful to to all of you for your continued support.
We take the process of hiring staff members very seriously and we always strive for the best. The best is what I believe we have in our two newest employees. Both Dennis and Duane each bring unique qualities and great people skills to our staff. Please take the time to introduce yourself and help us make them feel welcome.
Meet Dennis Mader,
Dennis and his family moved to Idaho about 20 years ago after his retirement as a Special Agent, for the State Attorney General's office. During this time he was also a district firearms/ training officer, and was certified by the FBI in their training methods. He is a graduate of the CHP, DOJ, and the DEA National Academies, and holds many POST certificates.
We are particularly excited about the tremendous Antique Firearms knowledge Dennis brings to CTS. He is a long time student of historical firearms and their development, which has continued to today as a pastime and a real interest, so if you have any questions about that old or vintage firearm, please ask him. He is a Co founder of SASS, Cowboy Action Shooting.
ˇ Dennis is a member of the following:
ˇ Cody Museum
ˇ Sharps Collectors Association Co Founder/Life
ˇ Colt Collectors Association
ˇ Single Action Shooting Society Co Founder/Life
ˇ NRA Life
Meet Duane Wilcox
Duane grew up in Spokane and Elk, Washington. He is a fulltime Firefighter for Spokane City and previously served in the US Navy for 7 years as a Firefighter/Search and Rescue team during Desert Storm/Desert Shield.
He has been a rifle shooter for many years and has recently added Glock 19 to his arsenal. He and his family enjoy camping, spending time at the lake, dirt bike riding, mud bog racing, competing in car shows, target shooting, as well as snowmobiling, and skiing in the winter.
Duane is married to his beautiful wife for 16 years, together they have 3 beautiful daughters who are all looking forward to improving their shooting.

Status of Gun Industry Peggy and I traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages and here's what we were told. I hope this information which comes directly from the mouths of the CEO's who run the industry's largest manufacturers provides some insight to the recent consumer demands on this industry.
Smith & Wesson: -is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.
RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.
FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out!
Armalite: Maxed out.
DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.
COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.
LWRC: Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.
Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.
AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ a volume of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.
MAGPUL: - is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of Magpul anytime soon.
RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up.
Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted...

Monthly Tip!
Part II of the two part Firearm Tip we started last month will continue next month.
Please allow me to put off the 2nd part to last month's tip.
The events of the last few weeks have promoted me to change the format here a bit. Last week I was privileged to speak at the local 2nd Amendment Rally held in CDA. I have been inundated with emails and phone calls of support for the message I delivered. Many of you have asked for a copy of the speech. I will use this space to provide a copy of the speech outline that I used to guide my words during my speech. Thank you again for all your support and your continued efforts to protect our way of life and the 2nd Amendment of the United States.
Ed's speech outline:
Who among us has not been moved by the unspeakable tragedy that was inflicted by a deranged man upon the children of Newtown, Connecticut? I submit that there are not two "sides" to this debate. There is only one side -- the good people of America, on all points of the political spectrum, united in OUR revulsion over this senseless, evil attack on our most helpless. Yes -- there is only one side -- the good side - the good people "Opposing evil."
We all must recognize that those who don't agree with us share in our desire to rid the world of such monstrous acts; and they must recognize that we are not the evildoers. We are citizens who exercise our constitutional right to own, use and enjoy firearms safely and responsibly for all lawful purposes. We are part of the fabric of American life, and we treasure our children, our heritage, and our traditions.
I don't think many of those who disagree with what we do appreciate the many things we've done to advocate personal responsibility with firearms. Many have either no experience with firearms or, unfortunately, have had negative experiences, either first hand or via the media, who rarely portray firearms or their owners the way the vast majority actually use them.
Many who disagree with us do not understand the semi-automatic -- one shot for each pull and release of the trigger. The most popular hunting and clay target shotguns are semiautomatics. The one I started hunting with was designed in 1905. So are the most popular target pistols, including those used in the Olympics. The most popular .22 rifles used to hunt small game are semiautomatics.
The overwhelming choice of both law enforcement and civilians who wish to exercise their constitutional right to own a pistol for self-defense is a semiautomatic. Semiautomatic rifles have been used in this country for deer hunting since 1905, and they are overwhelmingly the most popular rifles being sold today -- yes, for hunting, target shooting, and other lawful sporting purposes and home protection.
Rifles of all kinds (and semiautomatics are rifles) have figured in less than 5% of all crimes committed using firearms. In Connecticut, since 2006, they have been used in exactly 2 homicides. In this, they have been used twenty times less than knives, blunt instruments, and even hands and feet.
There have been over 147 million background checks since 1998. Over 300 million firearms are owned by almost half the households in America. Firearms ownership among normal, law-abiding citizens has undeniably increased, and over the last 30 years, despite the growth in firearms ownership, the homicide rate has declined by 50 percent, and violent crime has dramatically decreased to record lows not seen since the early 1960s.
This baffles our friends who fear that more guns equal more crime, but thankfully, this is just not true. Facts not emotions, however raw and heartfelt, must guide important social and legislative policies, especially where constitutional rights of American Citizens are concerned. Of course we listen to our hearts, but we must think with our heads.
Packed Firearms safety classes also show an intense interest in firearms ownership, and firearms accidents are at an all-time low, constituting less than 1% of all accidental deaths in this country, according to the National Safety Council.
At Center Target Sports we have trained almost 9,000 students. Those who oppose our way of life might see this as 9,000 potential problems. I DO NOT! I see this as 9,000 law abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights to own and bear arms. I see it as 9,000 people better prepared to protect themselves, their family, the innocent and this community. And I see this as 9,000 reasons for a criminal to go somewhere else or think twice before they attempt to rob or harm and Idahoan!
