Welcome back to the Target Zone:
Wow! Talk about time flying. It seems like just yesterday I saw that young beautiful redhead enter the nightclub at Pearl Harbor Navy base. On November 1st Peggy and I celebrated 26 years of marriage and on December 4th we will celebrate the 8th anniversary of CTS. I guess I am living my personal and professional dreams because both journeys seem to have begun just yesterday. Both have not been without their respective challenges but when something is meant to be....it will be!
Peggy and I are thankful for many things, but among the top are our employees and you our friends and customers. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
The holidays are near and that also means election time. So for the last time this year I beg you on both the National and Local level please get out and vote.
Our gunsmith services continue to expand and I discuss this in more detail below. Our seldom offered classes are listed below and although Terminal Ballistics is a class that does not have a broad appeal, I know how important the information covered in this program is. If you have an interest in how bullets cause trauma, sign up ASAP. I would like this class to have enough participation to make it worthwhile to run it. I promise if you take this class, you will never read the "Know It All - Best Bullet for Defense" ad or magazine article the same way again.
A reminder that the Glock rep will not be here in November as was previously listed. Due to personnel changes and schedule conflicts our NEW Glock rep will be at CTS on December 15th in support of our GSSF match.
Matt Chen was promoted in the Glock organization and our new rep will be Kyle Hopp. Mark your calendars as you don't want to miss the opportunity to have the master Glock armor work on you gun for FREE! We like FREE!
************************
A new IDPA group joins the CTS family. The Spokane IDPA group has asked if we would support their program during the winter months...Of course we said yes. They will be shooting here on the 4th Sunday of each month. The only exception will be January when they will shoot on the 3rd Sunday.
Our patrons will now have the opportunity to shoot IDPA 3 Sundays each month. They will be in and out of the facility on the same schedule you all are accustomed to. The majority of the time they are shooting before open to the public. 7am-11am. $10 to participate.
Help me welcome them to the facility. Stop by and say hi or better yet shoot their course and have a great time.
**New DUI restrictions for Utah**
The State of UTAH now assigns the level of the DUI charge to determine the length of time that must have passed before a CCW application can be made.
EXAMPLE: If you were convicted of DUI and the DUI was a class B misdemeanor then you must wait for a period of 4 years before you can apply for a Utah CCW permit. Remember, that is 4 years from the end of the probation or penalty period not from the day you went to court.
*****************************
GRID WALL and STORE FIXTURES
We have 100's of 2'x6' and 2'x8' grid wall panels and 1000's of item pegs for sale at unbelievable prices. We also have a number of store fixtures that we no longer need.
Please contact Stephanie, Ken, or Ed if you want to see the items.

*************************
We Buy Used Guns and will be happy to sell your gun on consignment for you. We try to keep a large selection of used guns on hand, but we are selling new and used guns as fast we can get them in. So the time has never been better for you to get cash out of that firearm that is just collecting dust.
It will cost you nothing to bring it in and get an idea on what value your firearm has. Just see Cam or Ken or Ed.
*********************************
Center Target Sports continues to be a collection point for used cell phones and toiletries for the Post Falls Women's shelter (OASIS). Just bring in and leave with Peggy. They will also accept PJ's, robes, slippers and toiletry bags. If you're traveling and have checked luggage, collect all those unused bottles in your hotel bathroom and bring them back for us to donate to OASIS. Every little bit helps. Thank you.
**Wow, what an outpouring of giving...Thank you to all of you who have been bringing in toiletries and robes and hats etc. CTS is the ONLY one collecting for the Shelter and I'm proud to be making monthly deliveries...Peggy

PLEASE Vote Nov 6th!!
Let us all see the IMPACT the Shooting Community can have on our Local Elections...
If you look at the qualifications of all the candidates you will clearly see how Bob Foster is unmatched in this regard. Not one candidate has anywhere near Bob Foster's years of both establishing new and running established law enforcement departments at the highest levels.
I say we take candidate Wolfinger's campaign slogan "Experience Counts" and VOTE FOR Bob Foster. After all a vote for Bob Foster's experience is years of leadership experience...not years of following someone else.
We are a government by the people, for the people and the people (you & me) have more than just a voice, we can make a change! Please grab a friend and take them to the polls and VOTE for Bob Foster!

Firearm Orientation Classes are for EVERYONE!
Firearm Orientation classes are FREE to you if you purchased the firearm from us, but did you know you can take these classes for a fee if you didn't buy your gun from us? Many people have heard about our 1hr class that is firearm specific and teaches the owner how to load, unload, clean, transport, store, disassemble/reassemble, etc.
These classes are taught by one of our gunsmiths and it is my goal to ensure that every firearm owner knows about his/her new purchase. A large number of firearm accidents result from operators not understanding how their firearm functions. That is why every firearm we have ever sold or ever will sell comes with this FREE class to the new owner.
This class is available to anyone regardless of where you purchased your firearm. For only $40.00 you can show up when your firearm class is offered, pay for the class and you are in. The classes and times are now listed on our class calendars on our website.

New gunsmith room taking shape to support our new hours and services...
I guess we should have built it sooner because since we re-built the Gunsmith Room and taken over the in-house Gunsmith Services...you sure have come! Peggy and I along with the staff are so excited with your response to our added gunsmith and the huge increase in the gunsmith services we are now offering in-house.
Thank you for all the great comments and we especially appreciated you telling us of how happy you have been with the turnaround time and quality of the gunsmith work. It is our intent to have a gunsmith on duty every hour we are open. We are not there yet, but it will be coming soon.
In addition to all the new in-house services we have added, Cam is now offering Powder Coating services at his home Gunsmithing location. Please see Cam if you want him to take your firearm home and turn it into a powder coat masterpiece.
Please spread the word about our expanded gunsmith services and bring in a firearm or two so that we may dazzle you with our quality of work, value and turnaround time.
The list of increased services is too long to list here. Please check with our staff to see if our services match your needs. |

Seldom Offered But Back Again...
Terminal Ballistics ... November 24
If we peaked your interest with the October Free Clinic on Gunshot Trauma, you won't want to miss the "how the trauma is caused" class we call Terminal Ballistics. This is the class that will put to rest all the myths of stopping power, knockdown power and dispel much of what we see on TV and in the movies.
This class is based on fact and science as well as testing by men and woman a lot smarter than me. However, I have studied terminal ballistics for over 30 years and have been fortunate enough to surround myself with people who live this terminal ballistic life as a profession. This is a class you will not want to miss.
Terminal Ballistics
Combative Handgun Skills...
December 1st
This is a course developed to introduce our students to the appropriate response to a surprise attack. This class teaches students to use the body's natural FLINCH response to their advantage. Natural flinch body posturing will be the initiation position for many of the techniques presented in this course.
Advanced gun techniques and manipulation skills are included in this course which also include defensive and offensive movements.
Even the best prepared or situational aware person is subject to a surprise attack. This class will teach you to win that fight!
Low-Light Shooting... December 22
Experience the most comprehensive and innovative Low-Light training. Through our innovative training systems you will learn to dominate your suspect and your environment.
This one day course provides the student with the training to effectively control their environment and suspect with light. Students learn how light affects the eye and are taught to use light to gain and maintain the advantage in low-light encounters.
Classroom instruction and live fire exercises are used to insure the students understanding of the skills necessary to survive and thrive in a low light environment.

Refuse to be a Victim- November 7
Peggy continues to generate money for the Woman's advocacy program of the Post Falls police department. Most of you know that 100% of the $20.00 tuition we charge for this 4 hour class goes directly to the PFPD program. Not only are we helping the community we are providing vital personal safety info that can and will benefit every participant.
I believe the single most important factor in surviving criminal attack is to have an overall safety strategy before you need it. Our Refuse To Be A VictimŽ class taught by Peggy will teach you the personal safety tips and techniques you need to avoid dangerous situations, and avoid becoming a victim.
This is a great class for everyone, but particularly important for women and teenagers.
Here are a few of the Topic areas covered in our Refuse To Be A VictimŽ class:
- HOME SECURITY
- PARENTS AND CHILDREN
- PERSONAL SECURITY
- PERSONAL PROTECTION DEVICES
- AUTOMOBILE SECURITY
- WORKPLACE SAFETY
- TECHNOLOGICAL SECURITY
- TRAVEL SECURITY
Also on schedule for Jan 30, 2013

Welcome our 2 new employees
We continue to grow our staff to best serve your needs. Who would have thought that our staff would ever grow to 13 employees. This is only a reality because of the tremendous loyality and support of our patrons. Peggy and I along with our entire staff are very greatful to to all of you for your continued support.
We take the process of hiring staff members very seriously and we always strive for the best. The best is what I believe we have in our two newest employees. Both Dennis and Duane each bring unique qualities and great people skills to our staff. Please take the time to introduce yourself and help us make them feel welcome.
Meet Dennis Mader,
Dennis and his family moved to Idaho about 20 years ago after his retirement as a Special Agent, for the State Attorney General's office. During this time he was also a district firearms/ training officer, and was certified by the FBI in their training methods. He is a graduate of the CHP, DOJ, and the DEA National Academies, and holds many POST certificates.
We are particularly excited about the tremendous Antique Firearms knowledge Dennis brings to CTS. He is a long time student of historical firearms and their development, which has continued to today as a pastime and a real interest, so if you have any questions about that old or vintage firearm, please ask him. He is a Co founder of SASS, Cowboy Action Shooting.
ˇ Dennis is a member of the following:
ˇ Cody Museum
ˇ Sharps Collectors Association Co Founder/Life
ˇ Colt Collectors Association
ˇ Single Action Shooting Society Co Founder/Life
ˇ NRA Life
Meet Duane Wilcox
Duane grew up in Spokane and Elk, Washington. He is a fulltime Firefighter for Spokane City and previously served in the US Navy for 7 years as a Firefighter/Search and Rescue team during Desert Storm/Desert Shield.
He has been a rifle shooter for many years and has recently added Glock 19 to his arsenal. He and his family enjoy camping, spending time at the lake, dirt bike riding, mud bog racing, competing in car shows, target shooting, as well as snowmobiling, and skiing in the winter.
Duane is married to his beautiful wife for 16 years, together they have 3 beautiful daughters who are all looking forward to improving their shooting.

A Safety Tip!
Personal Safety Travel Considerations for the Holidays
The holiday season is ongoing and we often get very involved in this festive time thinking of decorations, gifts and enjoying our friends and family. However, the very things that make the holidays so special often heighten our potential for danger. Many of us will be traveling out of the area to visit family. Our daily routines are often modified. We find ourselves very goal oriented (got to get that specific gift) and fail to maintain our awareness of our surroundings. Many times we may be shopping after work during the hours of darkness. We may even be carrying more cash than usual. For all these reasons and many more I felt the need to speak to some specific holiday safety issues.
If you are traveling, plan ahead! By vehicle, know where you are going and how to get there and back. Obtain a map or download the latest available GPS data. Check for construction detours; for longer trips, get a weather forecast.
If traveling out-of-state, visit the "National Traffic and Road Closure Information" Website at http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo/index.htm . You may also try a phone call directly to the State Police of the state you are visiting. Inform a family member where you will be and when to expect you back; give them your route if they don't know it.
If you have access to a cellular telephone, carry or take it (but don't use it while driving; this is now unlawful in many states). When driving, keep doors locked and windows rolled up at all times. Maintain at least half a tank of fuel, and keep vehicle in good repair.
Let's not forget the vehicle's mechanical condition. Have your vehicle serviced and checked out sufficiently far ahead to allow for repairs if needed. Don't forget to have the mechanic check your spare tire and all fluid levels along with the other preventive maintenance procedures.
Purchase or make your own "Breakdown Kit" and keep it in your vehicle at all times. At a minimum, your kit should include the following:
- Thermal blanket/bag and a gallon of water
- "HELP" sign/flag and flares/reflectors
- Flashlight, duct tape, cheap disposable poncho or rain coat
- Jumper cables and First Aid kit
- Toilet paper, matches, misc. tools, a small ABC-rated portable fire extinguisher
Perhaps the most important safety tip of all; Devote your full time and attention to driving! Resist distraction. If you feel yourself getting tired, pull over and take a break (at a safe location where there are other people and light).
Awareness, Awareness, Awareness... As I have often discussed in this column, Awareness will keep you safe. This is true in and out of the vehicle.
Also handy when you're "away" from home is a "Lost/Stolen Wallet Inventory & Emergency Checklist" to record key information for a house-sitter, friend/neighbor, or relative. Obviously, this list needs to be kept separate from your wallet.
When parking... roll up the windows, lock the vehicle, take the keys, and insure your valuables are concealed (preferably in the trunk). During hours of darkness, park and walk in lighted areas to the extent possible.
While carrying large amounts of cash should be avoided, you should have enough small bills and change to cover on-the-road purchases, including fuel should you run low while in an area where stations don't accept the cards you carry. Enough for a half tank fill-up, taxi or bus fare, snacks and drinks or a phone call should be sufficient. Traveler's checks are safer, but are no longer universally accepted. Keep your wallet, purse, and any other valuables on your person or otherwise out of sight, NOT on the seat next to you.
Happy Holidays to you all and be safe! |
