The pleasure was ours earlier this summer to join Ryan Dineen and other talented Canadian artists in the Lieutenant Governor's Suite at Queen's Park for the unveiling and opening reception of Identity: Art Inspired by the Great Lakes. Beautifully curated and installed, the exhibition will run for the better part of a year and is available to the public for viewing. Dineen's Go Home Bay was a much talked about work that night as we discussed the significance of Canada's Great Lakes. You can learn and see more here about this purposeful exhibition though this link, as well as photos from the launch event here. Travis Shilling live painted at this month's sold out AGO First Thursdays event. As part of Land Rights Now!, Shilling's completed canvas Fire Face now hangs in the Contemporary Canadian room across from the Morrisseau at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Shilling also just wrapped up at the Mendel Art Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan. Two of his works were featured in The Fifth World, TRIBE's anniversary exhibit curated by Wanda Nanibush. Shilling has works in our current exhibition, and additional new works are now online and on site. Daniel Hughes has been announced as one of the 30 finalists for The Kingston Prize. Hughes' portrait of fellow artist Shayne Dark marks an important period in the artist's career. He has long been considered a foremost figurative artist, as this article positions: Ten of the Best Contemporary Portrait Artists. His shortlisted painting, featured in this article (pls. scroll down) along with an earlier approach to the same subject matter for comparison, is rendered in a looser painterly approach that hints at where the artist has been heading -- to pure abstraction. His new striking abstracts are part of Summer Series VIII. |

Joe Rosenthal (R.C.A.)A key part of this year's Summer Series, Joe Rosenthal has both his figurative sculptures and paintings included in the exhibition. Known for his exceptional skill in sculpture, painting and printmaking, for which he has been honoured with numerous awards, Rosenthal was named to both The Ontario Society of Arts and The Royal Canadian Academy. I don't know how to describe creativity, but it's a constant attitude I constantly have towards my artwork." - Joe Rosenthal Installation | Summer Series VIII: Sara Sniderhan, Ryan Dineen, Daniel Hughes | July 2015

Autumn 2015 Solo Exhibitions: Anna Yuschuk, Sara Sniderhan, Ryan Dineen
Our most recent studio visit with Anna Yuschuk (above) has us enthralled with the calibre of technical skill and the cerebral nature of her new works. Please save the date to meet and celebrate with Yuschuk at the gallery on Saturday, September 19th between 2pm and 4pm. Her new body of work, One, explores the nature of it all, water and trees, with universal themes and sentient knowledge. Soon after Yuschuk's solo Sara Sniderhan opens A Room of Her Own, her third solo with the gallery. A skilled and dedicated figurative painter, Sniderhan continues on her significant trajectory as an artist, teacher and curator. Sniderhan's community of Creemore, Ontario is a hotbed of art and culture appreciation. In 2014, Sniderhan curated Inspired, a group exhibition for the Creemore Festival of the Arts. This year she has created masterful portrait works in conjunction with Curiosity House Books for the soon to be released The Village and I: 10 Life Stories. An exhibition of the works will take place at the Creemore Log Cabin during the upcoming 2015 Creemore Festival of the Arts (October 3-4). Ingram Gallery is also involved in this year's festival as we are curating a pop-up exhibition, The View from Here, which runs for the weekend at the Firehall. Ryan Dineen opens his second solo with the gallery, Minor Disasters, November 12th.
