Each day at the gallery has art enthusiasts visiting and news arriving from artists' studios.  The fullness of recent weeks has us mindful of the gallery as a hub to great people, activity and achievements.  Ingram Art News! is an important extension of what happens here at the gallery and we appreciate the dialogue it creates. 

As we get to the news and information for the final few weeks of the year -- we begin with the 2013 Governor General's Literary Awards.  Congratulations to Rachel Berman as she was short-listed for the second time for her remarkable illustrations.

Kate Grigg's The Dreaming Street is the artist's 6th solo exhibition with Ingram Gallery.  Renowned for her singular take on 'the great Canadian fact', Grigg injects her landscapes with weightiness through her bold brushwork and expressive colour.  Chronicling the streets of her hometown of Orillia, Grigg has captured the ever evolving life cycle of her heart's home.  With each series and solo exhibition throughout her career, Grigg has managed to capture a focused vision of why she paints her preferred subject matter. 

In The Dreaming Street, Grigg takes the viewer back to Scott Street as a means to consider the inevitable cycle of life, for cities, the natural world and for us all.

... the exhibition features more than 100 works from prehistory to the present day and will explore the ways many generations of Anishinaabe have expressed their relationships with their homeland. This important exhibition presents Anishinaabe stories, histories and experiences, providing visitors with dynamic indigenous perspectives from the peoples of the Ojibwe (Chippewa), Odawa (Ottawa) and Potawatomi nations.

MICHAEL CLAY (1953-2013) 

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Clay on Wednesday, November 12th at his home in Newcastle, Ontario. We remember a vital man, a talented sculptor and a dear friend.  Our thoughts are with Michael Clay's family.  We welcome friends and collectors to share their memories of Michael amongst his beautiful sculptures at the gallery.

New works from artists' studios

Timed to arrive for the busy days ahead, we have three new works just in at the gallery from Sean Yelland.  We have also just received a lovely collection of small works from Shelley Mansel's studio.  Mansel's charmed location in forested rural Nova Scotia provides unlimited spectacular subject matter.  So too does John Doyle's Ontario farmstead and keen eye for long vistas.  Doyle is currently in studio at work on several new canvases.
