After several years of rule making, the Illinois Pollution Control Board recently amended the Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives, also known as "TACO." This is the risk-based cleanup process that establishes soil and groundwater cleanup standards in Illinois. Check out the full article here.
Mitigation Milestones Achieved at CPO
A milestone was achieved recently when the Chicago Premium Outlet Mall located in Aurora, IL, recorded the 10-year anniversary of a complicated wetland mitigation and naturalization effort. V3 performed the design and installation of the wetlands, which helped make the development a possibility and created a signature naturalized wetland complex that has set a high standard for performance.Check out the full article here.
Phase I ESA Changes: What to Expect
Get ready ... changes to the current standard practice for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) are coming.
The revisions will reflect current issues impacting the environmental risks associated with real estate transactions and property assessments. Implemented in 2005, the current standard - American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) E1527-05 Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I ESA Process - has been revised to clarify the process and enhance compliance with the All Appropriate Inquiry (AAI) rule. The new standard, ASTM E1527-13, reportedly will be approved on Nov. 13, 2013. The changes will go into effect one year from the EPA approval date. On that date all Phase I ESAs must be conducted in accordance with the new standard.Check out the full article here.
GROWING SEASON ENDS SOON ... DELINEATE YOUR WETLANDS NOW
If you know - or even suspect - that you have wetlands on your site, now is the time to get them delineated. Because of the permitting process, this is particularly critical if you have any property development plans in 2014. It's also essential to delineate now if you have any intention of selling your property next year.
The growing season to conduct wetland delineations ends in mid-October, and assessing your wetlands before then will provide a complete evaluation that may save you both time and money. You can still delineate until the snow falls, however, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or county regulators may consider the delineation to be incomplete. This would necessitate an additional vegetation/floristic analysis during next year's growing season that could delay your project schedule and approval.
So act now to keep your project moving and minimize your costs. To receive a proposal from our wetland delineation experts, contact Scott Brejcha at 630-729-6325 or at sbrejcha@v3co.com.
