Ten Common Sense Approaches To Reducing Cyber Threats - Part I

The recent Target data breaches re-lit the fire for improved data security in organizations both big and small. Being reminded that we are only a small misstep from a potentially costly, if not ruinous, breach of sensitive and confidential data, many are now scrambling to ensure that the data entrusted to their organizations does not become the source of yet another round of sensational headlines and lawsuits.

 

While it may very well be impossible to eliminate all risk to our data, it is altogether probable that we can reduce that risk to a prudently acceptable level - one that allows our organizations to continue to function while honoring the sensitive nature of the data to which we are entrusted, regardless of its nature. By following these ten steps, you can use a common sense approach to reducing cyber threats in your organization. 

 

 
Wearables, Bendables, And HRA - Oh My!

I have attended the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the past but was unable to do so this year. Instead I followed the daily news releases, blogs, and other postings that the show inspired. It is important to note that this is the Consumer Electronics Show and not the Business Oriented Electronics Show; however, often times new trends and technology originally designed for personal use find their way into the business world. Three terms - Wearables, Bendables and HRA - consistently peppered the material emanating from CES. Even though these are not new terms and therefore are not new concepts, the importance of these three segments of the technology landscape seems to be growing.

CCH Axcess Named As One Of Top New Products
CCH Axcess, a cloud-based tax preparation, compliance and firm management solution, has earned the honor of being named as one of AccountingToday magazine's 2014 Top New Products, chosen by editors as one of the best tools introduced in the past year. Registration For Thomson Reuters Payroll Summits Now Open

Thomson Reuters has announced that registration is open for its third annual Payroll Summits, which offer two days of first-hand insight to help accounting firms capitalize on new opportunities in the rapidly evolving payroll space. Limited to 50 seats per city, the Payroll Summits focus is on technology and workflow best practices, sales and marketing techniques, and strategic planning. Every firm will leave the Summit with a customized action plan detailing how to start or grow their specific payroll offering according to Jim Paille, Director, Operations, at Thomson Reuters' myPay Solutions.  

 

Excelapalooza Dates Announced
Excelapalooza - BizNet's 3rd annual Excel user conference - is scheduled for Sunday, September 21 through Wednesday, September 24 at the Four Seasons Resort & Club in Los Colinas, Texas.
