Outside The Box Thinking For Today's Technology Tools | |
When I was growing up, my father often was involved in a home improvement project. He built shelves in the garage, added a patio to the back yard, and erected a fence to keep our dog from running off. I remember, keenly, his skill at adapting tools to meet his needs. To understand what I mean, consider these examples. He used a �-inch crescent wrench as a hammer when space was limited, pressed a screwdriver into service as a pry bar, and even used plumbers flux as burn ointment when he passed the blowtorch too close to his hand. Adapting tools to meet our needs is not limited to those working in construction or manufacturing; many technology tools designed for a particular task can be utilized for other purposes.

Thomson Reuters Acquires TaxWorks |
The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters has announced that it has acquired select assets of the TaxWorks software line from RedGear Technologies. "After careful consideration, we've decided to focus more strongly on our consumer tax preparation software for our retail and franchise business and therefore will no longer offer the TaxWorks line of software," said Brad Peacock, Assistant Vice President, RedGear Technologies.

| IRS Filing Statistics Show Decline In Number Of Returns Filed, Average Refund | |
Based on statistics released by the Internal Revenue Service, the total number of tax returns received by the agency through April 19, 2013 declined slightly as compared to a similar period for 2012. Additionally, the average refund amount also dipped slightly for the 2013 filing season.

CCH Launches CCH Axcess |
CCH has announced the launch of CCH Axcess, a Cloud-based modular tax preparation, compliance and firm management solution. With CCH Axcess, CCH is delivering a Cloud solution with an integrated central database that offers a single point of access to handle all tasks associated with the tax process - from return preparation and compliance to file storage and practice.
