Five Features to Watch for in Excel 2013

Having used Excel 2013 for several months, I am becoming increasingly impressed with some of the new features added to the application. To be sure, there are some things I do not like about Excel 2013, such as not shipping with the predefined web query files available in prior versions, but overall, I am very impressed with the application. Following are five of my favorite new features in Excel 2013.

Now That's Cool!

I am a CPA, and beginning in late January and, until nearly the end of April, a high percentage of CPAs are buried preparing corporate and personal tax returns. I, however, do not do much with taxes, but instead, turn my attention to the latest technology trends so I am "in the know" when teaching technology-related seminars and conferences. I am constantly amazed at the unbelievable advances made from year to year

I was technologically astonished, for the first time, when I was nine years old and the brilliant minds that create computing devices continue to impress me. One of my earliest "tech recollections" came in 1974 when I ventured into a game room at the hotel at which we lodged during our vacation, and was forever changed by a screen featuring two little white dashes (rackets) and a square dot (the ball); the game was Pong. I am not as easily impressed these days, but this is not an issue because new gadgets are so incredible.

Here are a few of the items that are just out or that are coming out soon that make me say, "Now that's cool!"

Registration Opens for 2013 Payroll Summits

Thomson Reuters has announced that registration is open for its second annual Payroll Summits which offers first-hand insight on how accounting firms can profit by offering payroll processing services to their clients. The two-day forums are designed for firms that are considering offering in-house payroll processing services or seeking to grow their existing payroll business. The summits will help attendees examine where they are with payroll today and develop concrete plans to build and grow their payroll business. Limited to 50 seats per city, the Payroll Summits focus on how to capitalize on the growing opportunities in payroll services through using technology and workflow best practices, sales and marketing techniques, and strategic planning.
