Harrison County and our region are blessed with an abundance of natural resources including water, timber, coal, and oil and natural gas. These resources have been a significant part of the growth and economic prosperity of Harrison County for over 130 years. Thousands of local citizens have and continue to work in the natural resources industry, as well as related service, support and supply businesses.
Many natural resource companies, large and small have been located and active in our region over the years, and their employees and owners have always been volunteers and leaders in the well being of our communities to include the United Way and all of the organizations it supports. Further, many of these companies play an active role in Harrison County beyond the United Way with scholarship programs, direct giving to community programs and many special events that require funding and volunteers.
As we progress into the 21st century, our natural resources industries continue to contribute to the community by providing good jobs and career opportunities, support of education and healthy lifestyles, and an on-going involvement with the United Way as volunteers and financial supporters. Those of us in the natural resources who live and work here truly believe that "It's About Neighbors Helping Neighbors."
