2013 Campaign Chairman's Corner
--Jeff Barger
"NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS."
As we begin the 2013 United Way Campaign I would like for you to know why this endeavor has become very personal to me and why I am proud to lead the fundraising effort this year.
I have been approached several times about leading the annual United Way Campaign and declined based upon the possibility of not having enough time to dedicate to the task but after a self-assessment forced by life's events, changed my mind and am fully committed to the 2013 Campaign. So why did I change my mind?

LITERACY VOLUNTEER TUTOR LEADS 4TH GRADERS WITH
"LETTERS TO HEROES" PROJECT
Thanks to Mr. Pascarelli's fourth graders, soldiers from the 305th Military Police Company serving in Afghanistan now have some new pals.
The "Letters to Heroes" project has approximately 20 students writing letters to soldiers in the 305th MP Company. Gene Larosa, a volunteer tutor with Literacy Volunteers of Harrison County, assists with the 4th grade reading class at St. Mary's. He mentioned the idea to Mr. Pascarelli as a way to improve the students' handwriting skills, since handwritten letters were becoming something of a lost art. Pascarelli and Larosa hoped that the project would benefit the soldiers as well as the students. READ MORE_about how project is set in motion...
Literacy Volunteers of Harrison County is located at Colonial Village, 104 East Main Street, Suite 1F Clarksburg. To learn more about the organization visit the website at www.lvhc.org or follow on Facebook and Twitter.
