heavenA Slice of Heaven for Harriet

"It's not always easy to find an apartment that I can afford," said Harriet Felton, resident of Cambridge Apartments. "So when Mercy told me about the construction, I didn't know what to expect. But overall, it was a wonderful experience and I have a beautiful place I can really call home. It's my little slice of heaven."

Just last week, Mercy Housing Northwest welcomed seniors to their newly renovated homes in Thurston and Lewis Counties. Thanks to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and our funding partners, Key Bank and Enterprise Community Investment, 92 apartment homes were fully renovated, creating affordable and sustainable housing for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Renovations included the use of green building practices, significant energy efficiency upgrades, lowering the monthly costs of utilities and improved accessibility for residents. More than 200 construction workers participated in the project and 75% of the workforce was locally sourced from South Puget Sound.

The grand opening turned out to be a great event, attended by residents, Mario Villanueva, Washington State Director of USDA Rural Development, Karen Miller and staff from Washington State Housing Finance Commission, Enterprise Community, Bonnie Canaday, Mayor of Centralia, as well as staff members from Senator Maria Cantwell's office and Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler's office. The celebration also included a BBQ hosted by Buchanan the general contractors for all three renovations, thank you to the Buchanan team!

microsoftMHNW Youth Take Over the Microsoft Store

residents at microsoft store Mercy Housing Northwest is the official partner of the month with the University Village Microsoft Store! As their nonprofit partner, Mercy Housing youth have the opportunity to take a field trip down to the Microsoft Store to take part in multiple workshops including, "Movie Maker", learning how to create, shoot and edit a short film, and "Kudo Game Master," creating your own video game with Microsoft programming.

This opportunity allows youth to learn and use technology they may otherwise not have access to, and more importantly, connects them to outlets that may lead into prospective career paths.

You are welcome to come visit us at the Microsoft store on Tuesday, July 30th! We'll be on site collecting back-to-school supplies at University Village and would love to see you. Come by and say hello!

eventExperience the Power of Home on Sept. 27th

Many of us are fortunate to have a safe, warm and loving place to call home. There is food on the table, bills are being paid and there is comfort in knowing where you and your family will sleep tonight. This, however, is not the case for everyone.

Once a year, Mercy Housing gathers community members, local businesses and long time supporters at our annual event, The Power of Home Breakfast. This annual fundraiser raises important funds to help residents with much needed services - such as after-school programming and healthy and wellness classes. We invite you to join us on Friday, September 27th at 8:00 am at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle and support Mercy Housing Northwest at a memorable event. Our residents need you to help provide a safe and healthy place to come home to. RSVP today, http://www.mercyhousing.org/WA-Power-of-Home and thank you!
