GREEK FILM TO OPEN THE FIRST EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL IN LA
LITTLE ENGLAND - Greece, 2013, 132 min

Pantelis Voulgaris' new film LITTLE ENGLAND will open the inaugural EUphoria Film Festival on September 19th, 7 pm, Norris Cinema Theatre/USC - presented by the European Union Consulates, USC School of Cinematic Arts and ELMA.

Director: PANTELIS VOULGARIS
Producer: KATERINA HELIOTI
Screenwriter: IOANNA KARYSTIANI
Principal cast: PENELOPE TSILIKA, SOFIA KOKKALI, ANNEZA PAPADOPOULOU, ANDREAS KONSTANTINOU, MAXIMOS MOUMOURIS, VASSILIS VASSILAKIS

Synopsis: In the 1930s, Andros, a Greek Cycladic island rich in maritime tradition, 20 year-old Orsa (Penelope Tsilika) is passionately in love with sailor Spyros (Andreas Konstantinou). Taciturn Orsa does not reveal her secret to anyone, not even to her younger sister Moscha (Sofia Kokkali). A free spirit and full of dreams, Moscha aspires to leave the island and escape what local tradition dictates: That women marry sailors and spend their lives in loneliness, often struck by grief when husbands perish at sea. The girls' mother, Mina  (Anneza Papadopoulou), a disciplined but shrewd wife of captain Savvas (Vassilis Vassilakis) is truly at the helm of the family in the absence of her husband. Her own tough life has convinced her that love bears nothing more than trouble and pain. But when she turns down Spyros' marriage proposal to Orsa, a dramatic chain of events ensues.
