LAGFF ANNOUNCES THE PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM
Sponsored by Pabst Brewing Company and the Metropoulos Family

Submission Deadline: April 20, 2013

After overwhelming demand, LAGFF will launch a program that will enhance development and production possibilities for filmmakers of Greek and Balkan descent, as well as international filmmakers who wish to make a film in Greece or with a Greek theme. The LAGFF PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM will be presented as an industry program within the time frame of LAGFF 2013, June 6-9, in Hollywood, California.

Filmmakers during a panel discussion at LAGFF 2012 - Hollywood, CA

The Forum will consist of the presentation of 5 -10 select (by the LAGFF
programming team) feature film projects to invited industry professionals
such as producers, financiers, distributors, executives, development
professionals, as well as accomplished creative professionals. The
professional panelists will critically respond to each project's 10-minute,
in-person presentation by the filmmakers themselves, followed by an active Q&A session between panelists and filmmakers. At the end of the presentations, the panelists will deliberate privately to select the winning project.

The program will conclude with a free-form feedback session among the
panelists and the participants.

The winning project will receive the following:
  • $1,000 Aegean Award - sponsored by the Metropoulos Family.
  • Official merit acknowledgement by LAGFF to be presented on the LAGFF media (website, newsletter, press release, social media).
  • The submitting filmmaker's (one) guaranteed acceptance and free participation at the MEDITERRANEAN FILM INSTITUTE of either 2013 or 2014. (MFI is a script lab taking place every year in the Greek island of Nissyros).

*Note: MFI participation includes entrance to the program, meals and accommodations. Travel expenses not included. Although not guaranteed, the Festival may help with free accommodation arrangements through its Help-A-Filmmaker program.

HOST A GREEK FILMMAKER DURING LAGFF - JUNE 6-9, 2013
The economic crisis in Greece has significantly limited the likelihood of filmmakers traveling to Hollywood to share their work with us in person.  The cost of travel to Los Angeles, accommodations for 5 days, and expenses such as meals are prohibitively expensive for artists.

Would you consider helping a filmmaker come to LAGFF? Do you have a spare room available within 10 miles ofour festival venue, the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills? Would you consider extending your hospitality to a filmmaker for a few days? Could you imagine what a great opportunity and interesting experience it would be to meet and host a filmmaker in your home?

If you would be interested in hosting a filmmaker, please contact Eleni Arvaniti at eleni@lagreekfilmfestival.org for more details or to discuss how you may be able to help.

PLEASE DONATE
If you are unable to offer your home, but would like to help a filmmaker, please consider making a small tax-deductible contribution to our Host a Greek Filmmaker program.  Make a donation of $10 or more and you will automatically be entered in a raffle to win two VIP tickets for the David Copperfield Show in Las Vegas.

Every dollar raised will be distributed to our incoming filmmakers to help them offset their expenses for their trip to Hollywood while attending LAGFF.

Visit our donation page and enter the amount you would like to contribute. It's that easy.  Anything you contribute will help, as no amount is too small.

"HELLO ANATOLIA" SCREENS IN ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 21
In 2010, Chrysovalantis Stamelos moved to Turkey. His family and friends thought he was crazy. His response - "maybe I was." But he could not shake the stories he had heard growing up of old Smyrna and Asia Minor.
"Hello Anatolia" (Crescent Street Films) tells the story of a young Greek American filmmaker who embarks on the journey of his life to Izmir (Smyrna), Turkey to trace the foot- steps of his great grandparents in their native land. In his effort to strengthen his own connection to his cultural heritage, he becomes a bridge builder of two cultures - and two peoples - who share a lot more than they have that divides them.

Sunday, April 21, 2013 - 3:00 p.m.
Mixer period: 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Screening: 4:00 p.m.
