1) Meet... Kristin Wenger!
Kristin Wenger grew up in Bedford, VA where she tells us that there are more cows than people...
a) How did you get into the dancing world?
I took ballet as a child and teenager. But like a lot of people, I started partner dancing after a particularly bad break-up :-)
b) Do you have a favorite song and why?
I love so many songs from endless genres, it's hard to pick just one. But a particular favorite for WCS dancing is "Start it up" by Robben Ford. I will play it at the dance!
c) What do you think is the most important thing any dancer should know about dance?
Practice and lessons are important. But if you want to learn to speak a new language, you eventually have to get out of the classroom and go talk to real live people. Partner dancing is no different, it is also a language. So if you want to master it, you have to get out of the studio and go dancing! Your 'conversations' on the dance floor are your most important lessons.
d) Do you have a favorite recent novel?
I loved The Pleasure of My Company by Steve Martin.
e) What are you up to when you're not dancing? When I'm not dancing, I am the Health Educator for the Blue Ridge Poison Center at the UVA Health System.
I have also done quite a bit of volunteer work for Live Arts Theater, including stage managing several shows.
f) Can you tell us a little-known fact or two about you that few people might know? My dream job would be the Education Director at a public aquarium or science museum.
I do the Washington Post Sunday crossword puzzle every week. In pen!

2) Our Gift No. 2 of Two, from Us to You! USA Dance Charlottesville is proud to offer local and regional Professional Dance Instructors FREE ADMISSION to our dances in 2014, and we're launching it with this month's holiday dance! The stars were aligned beautifully, it seems, as we had four instructors come to our dance last month. You told us that you loved having them there, and so did we! Instructors: for free admission, we request two things: 1) your business cards on our table for people to pick up, and 2) tell us about the details of a recent, ongoing or upcoming group class that you teach. We are often asked about group classes. We want to have that information about you at the tip of our fingers, the very moment you are inspiring people on our dance floor!
|
3) Found at the October dance! Soft Olive Brown Winter Hat! Please let us know if it is yours.
|
4) Which song is it that makes YOU fall in love with ballroom, latin or swing dancing every time? Tell us: we want to play the song for you on our dance floor this year!
You know what I'm talking about... the song that makes your feet move, your heart soar, your body come alive! The one that makes you fall in love, utterly or almost, with your partner, for just that moment? Which is yours? Email us: we want to know 1) the name of the song, 2) the artist, and 3) the dance you like to dance to it! We want to add it to our playlist for you!
|
 |
5) Get into the dance FREE!
If you are a USA Dance Member or a college student, volunteer at the front desk for half an hour and you get into the dance free! You'd be greeting friends as they arrive, helping them to sign in, giving your feet/knee/hip a break, and all the while watching fabulous dancing on the floor! Thank you for your support! Check in to see slot availability when you arrive.
(NOTE: this opportunity is available on a dance by dance basis as slots become available at the discretion of and subject to the approval of USA Dance Board members.)

6) Why you should become a Member of USA Dance!
~Instead of $12, you pay only $9 at each dance (for a possible savings of up to $27 each year)!
~Your membership card gives you membership rates at any other USA Dance you attend across the region or nation, not just ours. ~At our local chapter, volunteering at the front desk (when slots are available, subject to the board's discretion) gains free admission to the dance.
~You support a non-profit organization that welcomes all ballroom dancers from throughout the area, regardless of where/whether they have taken lessons. ~All members receive a subscription to the national organization's exciting bimonthly magazine, American Dancer. Members can use free Dancemart classified advertising in American Dancer magazine to sell personal costumes, shoes etc. or search for a partner. See magazine for details. ~There are several categories of membership; a common one is Social Adult Dancer Membership, at $25 per year. ~For more information or to sign up, ask at our front desk at the next dance, or visit USA Dance Charlottesville
