~ Meet Ana-Maria Cernev! ~

She is a Junior in high school in Northern Virginia, and competes with her brother, Mircea!

1) How did you get into the dancing world?

I was introduced into the dancing world because of the immense influence from both my brother, who was already dancing, and my mother, who always longed to dance.

2) What is the most important thing to know about dancing for any dancer?

Besides musicality, rhythm, and grace, the most important thing to know and achieve in dancing is confidence. If you have confidence then you can succeed at any level in your dance career. Of course, confidence comes from mastering steps and technique, but once you have that characteristic, no one can take it away.

3) What is a recent favorite book or movie of yours?

My favorite movie, as of recently, is Tangled and my favorite book is The Hot Zone, by Richard Preston. Although it was recommended as a non-fiction book selection for my English class, I found this one rather interesting, and I have reread it almost three times now.

4) What do you like to do in your non-dancing spare time?

In my non-dancing spare time...which rarely exists...I love immersing myself into a good book while engaging in a reading race with my mom or practicing my driving skills (I received my driving permit a few months ago!).

5) Do you have a favorite class, and  if so, why?

The class that I enjoy the most is Early Childhood Education, in which a group of children, ages ranging from three to five, come into our classroom and we essentially become their teachers for the year. We are each assigned a child or two, and we become their personal instructors that help them learn new concepts. I joined this class because ever since I was a little girl I always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Even though exhausting at times, especially when being asked to read many books and losing my voice, I look forward to seeing my two little girls again and again.
