1) Meet...
Cathleen Rhodes!
Cathleen grew up in New Orleans where she cut her teeth on dancing to Irma Thomas, The Neville Brothers, and other greats...
How did you get into the dancing world? I loved dancing so much. I studied ballet, tap and jazz as a child, and got into modern dance, with an emphasis on Isadora Duncan as an adult. One of my friends suggested that I learn ballroom and teach it, so I applied for a position at the local Arthur Murray Dance Studio. I got the job: that was my first introduction to partner dancing, and I loved it!
Do you have a favorite song and if so, why is it a favorite? I appreciate all types of music from standards to hip hop and everything in between. I don't like all music in every genre, but find great music in each. I particularly like music with a blues feel to it. Therefore, my favorite dances are Fox Trot and West Coast Swing dancing, but I love a beautiful Waltz, a hot Tango, a sexy Cha-Cha...you get the picture.
What is the most important thing to know about dancing, for any dancer? To me the most important thing to know about dancing is to learn the basics, then learn the basics again. Be so good at dancing the basics that the steps don't even look like the basics. Oh and have FUN!
To me dancing is more then just dancing. Dancing changes lives and that's the best part! Just follow new students for six months to a year and see the results for yourself.
Do you have a recent favorite movie? I absolutely loved the movie Burlesque with Cher and Christina Aguilera. The music was beautiful as well, great dance music!
What do you like to do in your non-dancing spare time? In addition to dancing, I am obsessed with fashion. I work part time at Ann Taylor and really enjoy dressing women so that they look and feel beautiful. My motto is that it takes just as much effort to put on a great outfit as a pair of sweats.

2) Which song is it that makes you fall in love with ballroom, latin or swing dancing every time? Tell us: we want to play the song for you on our dance floor this year!
You know what I'm talking about... the song that makes your feet move, your heart soar, your body come alive! The one that makes you fall in love, utterly or almost, with your partner, for just that moment? Which is yours? Email us: we want to know 1) the name of the song, 2) the artist, and 3) the dance you like to dance to it! We want to add it to our playlist for you!

3) Get into the dance FREE!
If you are a USA Dance Member, volunteer at the front desk for half an hour and you get into the dance free! You'd be greeting friends as they arrive, helping them to sign in, giving your feet/knee/hip a break, and all the while watching fabulous dancing on the floor! Thank you for your support! Check in to see slot availability when you arrive.
(NOTE: this opportunity is available on a dance by dance basis as slots become available at the discretion of and subject to the approval of USA Dance Board members.)
