Restoration specialist dies in fall from roof

Observer-Reporter, Southwestern Pennsylvania

Rea D. Jones, 59, of Washington, died March 10, 2014, in Monongahela Valley Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a fall through the roof of a building he was inspecting. In 1981, he started FireDEX of Washington as a franchise, later buying the franchise and becoming a licensee. FireDEX was the first full service restoration company in Western Pennsylvania. He received his Certified Restorer certification in 1989 and CR # 39. Most recently, he was owner of RDJ Consulting LLC and co-owner of Jones and Sons Rentals LLC. $900,000 in liens filed after Eastern Building & Restoration walks off jobs

Albany Business Review

More than $900,000 in liens have been filed against property owners that contracted with Eastern Building & Restoration since the Albany, N.Y., company abruptly walked off numerous jobs in early February. The liens were filed on behalf of 28 members of the Northeastern Subcontractors Association on 16 different public and private-sector projects.

Yarbrough named CRI president

The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) announced that Joe W. Yarbrough has been selected to lead the non-profit carpet industry trade group as president. He will begin his duties March 31, replacing current president Werner Braun, who is retiring. Yarbrough comes to CRI from Mohawk Industries, where he most recently served as senior vice president for advanced manufacturing engineering.

 

Wood flooring claims to freshen indoor air

Lauzon, a hardwood flooring manufacturer based in Papineauville, Quebec, is making a line of flooring called Pure Genius that it says improves indoor air quality. The finish on the flooring contains titanium dioxide, which reacts with light to start a chemical process that destroys molecules of pollutants such as bacteria, viruses and molds. The process transforms those airborne particles into water and carbon dioxide.

Legislature to tackle Florida insurance

Just as Florida's long struggle with rising property insurance costs seemed to be easing after eight years without a hurricane, the federal government stepped in this year and mandated large flood insurance rate increases. State lawmakers responded with a push to expand private flood policy options in Florida.

U.K.: Insurers expect $741.1 million flood bill

The Association of British Insurers said flooding losses from Dec. 23, 2013 to the end of February 2014 may reach £446 million ($741 million), Reuters reported.

 

Network Group 2014 conference programmed to 'Raise the Sales'

Annual Awards Banquet

The RIA Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 to highlight the accomplishments of RIA's certificants who have attained their certifications, honor those who have given countless hours of service to the organization, and recognize volunteers and individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their field. Awards presented include the Phoenix Awards for Innovation in Restoration and Reconstruction, service awards, the Martin L. King Award, the Golden Quill Award and the Advanced Certification Induction Ceremony. An additional ticket must be purchased for this event.
