I've had several people wonder what the inner basin is like from a standpoint of color, as they intend to go up to Lockett Meadow tomorrow ... well, judge for yourself from this photo I shot Saturday morning. I'm a few hundred yards into the inner basin in this shot, flying at the mountain and shooting perpendicular to the flight path ... The clouds came down about a thousand feet and both Agassiz and Humphreys Peaks are buried in the clouds ... Shultz/Doyle is the prominent peak upper left ... some dispute as to which is correct name for this peak.

There were strong winds at the peaks today ... 28kts at 12,100' from 234; this means you have strong winds coming over the top and as it comes down in the inner basin it creates some very messy air which is why I cancelled my flight with a friend this morning. Think of it like water coming down a stream with lots of rocks in it ... when the water flow is slow you get a few little burbles on the down river side from the rocks, but nothing substantial; then increase the water flow to 33 mph over the rocks and you have a very different look going downstream from the rocks. With the morning light on the inner basin and the east side of Kendrick Peak (downstream) I thought it prudent to not shoot it today, especially with a friend on board.

Strong upper winds tomorrow too, so work on photos and website will fill the day ... perhaps a drive up to Kendrick Peak to see it from the ground and hoping the winds are not stripping the trees of their leaves. Never been there on the ground.

Love this clean air ... have a beautiful day

I bring but this one common thought, my life has wrought;
That from the dregs of drear despair, still everywhere
There is a joy I yet may sip - Tis comradeship
With all mankind, the high and low
I know.
