Welcome to The Busy Corner's August Newsletter.

Loving Your House Again In 2014
Each month we will pick an area of the house to work on.  You can follow along or set your own path, either way we will do our best to help you get and stay organized by 12-31-2014

Getting Back-to-Basics is as easy as ONE, TWO, THREE!

We simplified your morning routine in June and are focusing on setting up a kitchen and back to school routine this month.  What challenges do you face setting up daily, weekly and monthly routines?

Share your comments & photos on The Busy Corner Facebook Page.

Back To School
SCHOOL TIME BASICS
Help your child get used to the back-to-school routine by starting the transition now to earlier wake-up times and bedtimes.

Prepare a study area.
Set up a special place at home for homework and school projects. Remove distractions.

Decide on a place for everything:
School uniforms/clothes
Backpacks
Lunch boxes
After school activities
School supplies

BACK TO SCHOOL ESSENTIALS
It is easy to overload on all of the fun and shiny school supplies.  Focus on having what you need and keep the fluff and frills to a minimum.  Keep It Simple.
  • Essentials to include would be:
  • Pens & Pencils
  • Paper, Folders & Notebooks
  • Art Supplies
Access the schools website for detailed information necessary for each grade.

Other things to consider for the backpack would be hand sanitizer & tissues.
Emergency contact numbers are a must.

There are many excellent websites available with more detailed information.
Here are a couple that not only deal with school supplies, but on the safety and well being of your child.

HAVE A SET ROUTINE FOR EVERYTHING.
Whether you have a child in school or not, setting routines will make for an easy summer to fall transition.

From meal planning to shopping, below are some ideas for a basic routine for the kitchen.
  • Plan meals a week in advance.
  • Prepare a grocery list.
  • Freeze a few easy meals.
  • Pack lunches the night before.
  • Keep plastic and paper products together.
  • Have a specific mealtime.
  • Assign kitchen responsibilities to all members of the family.
  • Dinner isn't finished until the kitchen is clean!

Getting back to basics simply means to make it easy on yourself.

Every step you take toward the organization of your home will simplify

each and every aspect of your daily routine.

Ruby's Corner
WHAT IS YOUR PET TO DO WITH THE BACK TO SCHOOL BLUES?
Back to school can be an exciting time for the children, but your pets may find themselves alone for most of the day.  Some animals can even experience separation anxiety.

INCLUDE THE FAMILY PETS WHEN CREATING YOUR BACK TO SCHOOL ROUTINE.

Spending ten to fifteen minutes in the morning before school or work walking and/or playing with your pet will help them get through the day.

Hide treats around the house to give a bored pet something stimulating to do. Fill treat toys for dogs to chew on.

Ruby gets excited for me to leave because she knows she gets a treat!

After school/work playtime is important to reassure a pet they haven't been forgotten.

Once a pet realizes there is a new routine and that the family will return home at a certain time, they have something to look forward to that can help them pass the hours.

Doggie Daycare and Professional Pet Walkers are also options to keep your pets entertained during the day, especially when you know you will have a longer day away from home.
