News You Can Re-Use

ReFUSE Holiday Wrapping Paper:

According to Hallmark Research, 98% of consumers say they wrap gifts during the holiday season. When it comes to what motivates consumers as they wrap gifts, they say that they are hoping to impress others, just get it done, or express their sense of humor through their choice of holiday gift wrap.

But curbside trash increases by nearly 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day largely due to discarded gift wrapping and other one-time use materials.

Why not REALLY impress this holiday season and make your own unique style out of paper bags, old, glossy fashion magazines or the paper bag you got at the supermarket the last time you forgot to bring your own bag?

But you will probably receive a gift or two wrapped in gift wrap, perhaps also factory-packaged in a plastic bag, Styrofoam or cardboard... so remember that cardboard is recycled curbside (required by City ordinance), plastic bags of all kinds can be recycled at your local supermarket, Styrofoam is recycled in Peabody, and gift wrap can be stored and re-used next year!  Metallic/foil wrapping paper is not recyclable.
Textile Drive Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!
This year we had over 300 vehicles drop off more than 6 tons of textiles, which is more than any other year since the first drive we had in 2011.

Please recycle textiles all year round by donating to re-sale and thrift stores, animal shelters (towels and blankets) and Goodwill donation centers (Vinnin Square).

The volunteer crew - with Geri Yuhas, John Roberts, Marcia Donovan Lambert, Beth Melillo, Nancy Gilberg, Anthony Keck, Heather Famico - Ward 2 Councillor, Erin Huggard and Flora Tonthat.
