2016 LHSA Spring Shoot Wrap-Up

Hello LHSA members,

We just concluded our 2016 NYC Spring Shoot Event, and judging from the many comments I heard, it was a great success. Members enjoyed three photo walks, a presentation at the NYC Leica Store in SOHO, and an excellent Saturday lecture line up. Our speakers included: Glen Craig, Gigi Stoll, Tom Grill, and Peter Turnley, who was our keynote presenter. The event was capped off with an afternoon reception on Saturday.

I want to thank all of our Spring Shoot sponsors for their support of the Spring Shoot and our association. They were, Digital Silver Imaging, Koh's Camera Service and Sales, and Tamarkin Camera.

Our first annual Student Photo Contest was judged by our keynote presenter, Peter Turnley and featured three winners. Our plans are to expand this program as part of our Photographer Philanthropy Fund started last fall. The contest and the fund are an effort to reach out to a younger generation to take a look at the Society for unique experiences. In addition, we also had a Spring Shoot Photo Contest for attendees, which was judged by Tom Smith of Leica Akademie USA. The winning images for both contests are shown below.

Please save the date for our Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, from October 5 - 8,  2016. We are organizing a star line-up of presenters: John Lehmann of the Globe and Mail, one of the best photojournalists in all of Canada; Ted Grant, the father of Canadian photojournalism; Quinton Gordon, Akademie photographer; Anna Mai Davidson; Brad Weeks, Leica West Coast Rep; a presentation at the Leica Store in Vancouver; walking tours by member Tom Abrahamsom; and of course Tom Smith of the Leica Akademie.
