How We Did This Summer . . . Providing Meals and School Supplies

Summer Meals

SouthFair's participation in the summer food service program was a success! We were able to distribute 65 meal bags throughout the summer. Once again thanks to  S.O.U.L. Movement for providing the meals.

School Supply Donations

Thanks for everyone's support with our small school supply donation efforts. We were able to provide 20 supply filled backpacks for our residents and six homeless students that attends Madison High School.  Our summer intern, Jaqueria Lacy assembled the bags and assisted with delivering the school supplies.

Upcoming Development . . .

SouthFair will start construction on another eight houses in Fair Park Estates this month.  The duplex known as 2800 Park Row will be demolished September/October to make way for two new houses to be incorporated into Fair Park Estates.

We will start pre-development work on Ethel Parnell Place Apartments II, an eight-plex multi family unit in Fall 2013. Thanks to The Real Estate Council for allowing our participation in their pro bono professional services and to Architect, Tyler Adams for the pro bono preliminary designs and pro forma.

SouthFair's Senior Care Program

The Senior Care Program is still going strong. Everyone looks forward to the monthly outing opportunities. In August, the Seniors saw the new movie "The Butler" at the Magnolia Theatre.  This month they will enjoy some senior yoga at Sync Yoga in the Bishop Arts District.

Community Member Spotlight: Christopher Webb

Christopher Webb became a resident of Fair Park Estates development in the summer of 2012. He quickly emerged as the Fair Park Estates Neighborhood Association's first President. Chris is not new to South Dallas. He has previously lived in South Dallas.

Getting to know Chris:

Where born: City, State- Dallas, TX

Favorite restaurant, dish, or pig-out food - Any restaurant that serves seafood

Family -No children, but adoption is a primary goal

Famous person you would most like to meet-  Diana Ross. Anyone who has went from the projects to a penthouse has a great deal of advice to offer.

Words that describe you best - Infiltrator

In your spare time you . . . - Sing, write and decorate

If you've learned one thing in life, it is . . . - "Let go and let God". He has a plan for me and may not divulge it when I would like for it to be known. God has taught me that something's are on a need to know basis.

What are your hopes/desires for SouthFair and the South Dallas community?- I hope that SouthFair will have continuous growth. SouthFair has the ability to seed an affluent possibility and to show others that South Dallas has not lost its historic value. Our community has a wonderful common dominator and that is that we are all "starting over with growth".
