Greetings!
Do You Know If Your Roof Can Support All This Snow

This is a winter to remember!  We haven't seen this much snow and extreme cold in many years.  Homeowners are shoveling the driveway and also the roof.  Why the roof?  For the first time in a very long time, they are worried about the weight of snow overloading the roof rafters.

As a Realtor or homeowner you may want to be better informed about roof snow loads, ice dams, attic moisture, and more.  Visit our website and blog for more information on these and other 'hot' housing topics.

How can we help you?

Too Much Roof Snow

Can my roof collapse from too much snow load? It's possible, but unlikely.

Since about 1950, MN must adhere to engineering standards that configure the structure of the roof. They are based upon the highest potential roof snow load in that area. The state building code requires that a roof be sized to safely meet or exceed those live snow loads. In the Twin Cities the maximum roof snow load is 35 pounds per square foot.

So how deep would the snow be if it has exceeded the maximum load...
