Waters West Fly Fishing
Outfitters

February 21, 2014

Welcome to the Waters West online newsletter.  In this newsletter we start by announcing some new casting and tying classes.  We then show you a couple exciting new fly tying products perfect for tying Intruders after you swing by the shop to see Jerry French give a tutorial on tying these amazing steelhead patterns.  We have finally seen our wet winter weather return but it looks like we are in for a drier week ahead, so make some time to hit the rivers as they drop back into shape.

Fly Tying Classes

We are offering two different multi-day fly tying courses this winter and spring.

The first is our Beginning Fly Tying Class.  This course is offered on four consecutive Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:00 pm starting February 25th.  You will finish the class having a firm grasp on tying your own flies.  You will learn how to tie dry flies, nymphs, streamers, and steelhead flies.

Our second class focuses on steelhead flies.  Our Steelhead Fly Tying Class will cover many concepts of steelhead flies including trailer hooks and shanks, marabou flies, string leeches, and intruders.  This tying class is offered on three consecutive Tuesday nights starting March 25th.

Spey Casting Classes

We still have open spots for our last two winter spey casting classes.  Whether you are new to spey casting or are looking to continue to improve, these classes will help.  Each class will take place on one or more of the Forks' area rivers.

Sunday, March 23rd
Saturday, April 19th

Product Showcase

Since we have Jerry French swinging by the shop for an Intruder fly tying demonstration on March 1st at 1:00pm we thought we would introduce a couple new materials that can be used for these effective steelhead patterns.  Click Here to learn more about Jerry French and his tying demonstration.

Amherst Pheasant Side Tails
These large tails are a nice alternative to the distinct black barring of the Amherst center tails.  They average 30"-35" in total length with fiber lengths 2"-3".  Great option for intruder style flies as well as wings, and sides on traditional flies.

Whiting High & Dry Custom Dyed Grizzly Capes
Whiting High & Dry Grizzly Capes are one of the better values in the fly tying hackle market.  These have been exclusively dyed in house by Waters West and cannot be found anywhere else.  The hackles are long and slender with thin stems, perfect for dries and sometimes a better choice for Intruders.  Waters West's dyeing process guarantees bold, vibrant colors, and the creative tier will find many uses for this product.  There is a limited supply and these custom dyed capes won't last long.
