Cliff's Articulator Box
This new box from Cliff is designed for intruders and any other fly with a trailing hook. Back the trailing hook into the blue slotted foam and put the head of the fly under the memory coil. Holds patterns in place and is the perfect size for a day's steelhead fishing.
We love the larger Cliff boxes and this smaller Cliff box solves the problem of how to carry large flies with trailing hooks on the water.
The box measures 6" X 4" inside.

November Fishing Forecast
The seasons are changing. As much as we would like fall fishing to last a few more months the rain and the recent snow on the Olympic Mountains are letting us know that winter is knocking at the door.
The next few weeks should remain good for coho salmon in the rivers. Sea-run cutthroat are spread throughout the systems and with recent rains have moved into the small creeks too.
A few winter steelhead have already been caught. Most of the November steelhead are hatchery fish so your best success will be in rivers with hatchery runs. Both swinging and nymphing are effective techniques. Numbers of fish will build throughout the month with more fish coming later in the month.
The key to river fishing this time of year is to take advantage of any break in the weather. This is one of the wettest times of the year and we keep a close eye on the weather and stream flows along with spending most days on the water. Give us a call for the most up to date fishing conditions and reports.
The saltwater fishing in the Strait for salmon is closed until December 1st. There are still saltwater fishing opportunities available though. The east side of the Peninsula still has sea-run cutthroats feeding along the beaches. Look for gradually sloping rocky shorelines for best success. The cutthroat will still move for poppers as well as baitfish patterns fished with an intermediate line. |

Spey Casting Class
We have a spey casting class coming up on November 25th. This class is a great way to shorten your learning curve and get ready for winter steelhead fishing. Spey rods allow an angler to cover the water quickly and efficiently with tremendous line control. It's not only fun, but very effective.

Recent Trip Report
The saltwater salmon season wrapped up October 31st. Chris took advantage of a calm day to see if there were still a few coho salmon left in the area.
The gear for the day was a 9' 8 wt fly rod rigged with a 25' T-14 shooting head backed with RIO Powerflex Intermediate running line. Fly choice was a chartreuse and white Clouser.
The flat water made the run towards the middle of the Strait quick and there were plenty of small resident coho in the area. There was one big pull but the hook came loose early in the fight.
With the size of the fish it would have been a great day to have a lighter 5/6 weight rod and a fast sinking line like RIO's Deep 7 to make the smaller fish a bit more sporting.
Hopefully next summer brings us another great salmon season on the Olympic Peninsula. |
