May 13th, 2014

Can you believe it? A solid week in New England without 30 degree mornings.  Warm weather has created a buzz.  It's also let us finish up some long awaited jobs.  Yours truly has been a traveling banshee.  Four ferries to/from Eastern Long Island last Sunday & Monday ( why drive around Riverhead twice when Shelter Island is so fun!)
Then a 500 mile day on Wednesday scouting some wood and delivering two Antique Heart Pine floors.  More this week too; Split Rail Fence, mahogany decking, & a beautiful trough delivery/install.
See below for a few points of interest.  Pecky Cedar made into a value edition pergola.  A huge square trough.  Antique Heart Pine in our "Mill Run" grade.  Plus some of our millstones for the budget minded.
Finally, we overloaded this edition with photos.  That's either good news or bad, depending on your point of view.  As a Thank You for reading to the end, this issue has a bonus picture.  Don't cheat! Read till the end please

This unique trough is 43x39", and 25" tall.

Below are some of our 36" grinding wheels.  $450 each, or a stack of three for $1000

8x8' Pecky Cedar Pergola kit ( made from 6x6" beams).  $795, includes precut lumber, all hardware, & 1 gallon Penofin Verde stain.

Product of the Month: Antique Heart Pine Flooring
Did we mention: we had a Winter that was filled with orders, but sawmill and kiln productivity was in the dumps due to the Polar Shift.  Well, we finally got two of our nicer jobs done, and delivered them just in the last few days.  Antique Heart Pine milled from historic Industrial Revolution timbers.  ( Don't forget, we can certify your vintage floor to be FSC certified, if you need LEED credits or need documentation that your are as green as you say you are).
Below is some of our 1x4, ( actually 3.25" wide) Mill Run grade.  We just finished our biggest job ever, an 8000 square foot waterfront residence in Rhode Island.  Pictures to follow next month.  But, while making 6/8/10" for that job, we generated miles of nice 1x4 stock.  Not Kidding.  Miles of it.
One of our favorite customers in NYC needed some for his own home.  We were just a bit late due to the Winter productivity issues, but we got it done & he's happy.  Below are some pics taken just before delivery:

Finally, if you've made it this far, it seems you might appreciate what we do.  Thank You!  Our Bread and Butter is milling vintage beams into some of the finest antique flooring you can find.  Our next best attribute is finding just the right surface for your project:  Wire-brushed Ash, custom hand hewing on any wood, specialty Fir and Cedar boards & beams, the best vintage barnboard available, or just the coolest chunk of vintage granite for your landscape project.  Thanks again, and please come see us again, for the very first time.

Here is a bonus pic, as a THANK YOU for getting all the way down to this picture-filled edition of our newsletter.  Below is my grandfather, T.S. Mann Jr., circa 1948 with 6000 Board Feet of pine coming off one of our timber lots, and backed up to our 4 sided planer located in the shop that we still use every day!
