OneWaterTM Campaign
OCWA's OneWaterTM Educational Program
As water and wastewater professionals, our employees perform a vital service for their communities every day by providing clean safe drinking water and by ensuring that the water we treat and return to Ontario's lakes and rivers meets the highest environmental standards. Our commitment to providing clean safe water goes well beyond our regular business activities.
While our water and wastewater operators have been going into classrooms and conducting tours of OCWA-run facilities for over 20 years, we recently decided to strengthen and formalize our commitment to water literacy by creating a program that will educate future generations on the value of water and the water cycle. OCWA's Brad Hoover explains the water cycle to students at SCInnovation on May 2 in Stratford. |
Friday, May 2 at the University of Waterloo, Stratford Campus.
SCInnovation engages high school youth in an innovative process where they work with local innovators and mentors from across a wide range of various industries to devise solutions to the world's pressing environmental problems and then pitch their ideas to a diverse group of innovation experts.
The goal of SCInnovation is for youth to experience the innovation process firsthand, to see themselves as innovators and to determine how keeping a hand in science will open doors for them in the future.
This year, the theme of SCInnovation is OneWater. OneWater emphasizes the interconnections of the Earth's water systems. Access to and use of water is fundamental to all sectors of the economy. The actions of one industry affect other industries and the communities that depend upon them. Engaging youth now prepares them to meet these current and future challenges. Read more |
BlueW Program Successfully Launches!
This past month, OCWA and our client, the Union Water Supply System (UWSS), worked with the staff at BlueW to successfully launch the program in the communities of Kingsville, Leamington and Essex. BlueW is a not-for-profit network of shops, restaurants and businesses willing to let visitors refill a reusable bottle with refreshing tap water, without pressure to make additional purchases. Participating locations are found by using BlueW's website, mobile website or iPhone application, and participating stores display a BlueW sticker in their window.
The program was extremely well received by businesses in the three UWSS communities, with over 60 locations now displaying the BlueW logo, and more still coming on board.
We look forward to working with more of our client communities to implement this great initiative! http://www.bluew.org/ |
