USDA released the March 1 Quarterly Stocks and Prospective Plantings reports yesterday. The stocks report held few surprises, but the prospective plantings were very impactful. Corn acreage was estimated at 93.601 million acres, up 6 percent from last year. The increase was across the cornbelt, but mostly in the western and central cornbelt states. Soybean acreage was estimated at 82.236 million acres, down 1 percent from last year. Wheat acres were estimated at 49.559 million acres, down 9 percent. Winter wheat was off 8 percent, spring wheat off 14 percent and durum up 3 percent. Sorghum acres were estimated at 7.216 million acres, off 15 percent. Spring weather will be a determining factor in actual acres. All other PRX reports will not be updated until the April 12th WASDE report.
