The long expansion in the U.S. economy has continued--albeit at a slower pace--in the face of stiff global headwinds. Weak global demand has trimmed U.S. exports and hurt employment in a number of the nation's export dependent industries. Nevertheless, overall improvement in the nation's labor market has boosted consumer incomes, strengthened domestic demand, and enhanced prospects that the nation's long economic expansion will endure.
