Son of God Movie Discussion Guide
|

This Friday the movie Son of God opens in theaters. I am usually warning about media. I am excited to get to endorse it.
Go see this movie. See it with your teenagers. See it with their friends. See it with your friends.
The Bible mini-series that played on The History Channel last year had roughly 180 minutes of Jesus' life. This movie removes the narration, re-edits it to 135 minutes, and reformats it for the big screen.
My wife and I were invited to preview it last week. WOW! Experiencing this movie in a theater without any interruptions from commercials or distractions left us speechless for almost an hour after the film. We experienced intensely the wonder, the hope, the passion, the tragedy, and the triumph of Jesus' life.
When you see this movie, it will be hard not to talk about it.
These discussion questions gradually move from focusing on the experience, then to the content, and then to personal application. - What kind of emotional journey did the movie take you on? List the different emotions that you felt.
- What scene do you think you will most likely remember 10 years from now?
- What did the movie do best at portraying the Biblical narrative? What did it do the worse?
- What convinced Peter to follow Jesus?
- What convinced Matthew to follow Jesus?
- What convinces people today to follow Jesus?
- When Jesus walked on water, what were the different reactions from the people who saw it?
- Which do you think you would be most like if you saw Jesus walking on water?
- What are the motivations of Judas, Pilate, and the high priest to plot against Jesus?
- Which is the most responsible for Jesus' death?
- When you sin, which one are you the most like?
- List the different reactions the film showed when different characters experienced Jesus' resurrection.
- Which do you think you would be if you had been there?
- What is your response today to Jesus' reaction?
Parents, remember to listen. Respect and accept opinions even if they differ from your values. Let this be a time of sharing as opposed to debate or lecture.
