Doing Everything Possible
At 13, Kitam was a gang member. His neighborhood was the "murder capital of the U.S."

At 15, he was using and dealing drugs. That year his girlfriend, Donyetta, got pregnant. She quit school, gave birth, and was on welfare by age 16.

By age 21, Kitam and Donyetta would have three more children.

At age 28, Donyetta was diagnosed with cancer. Their combined annual income is only $21,000.

How did their children turn out growing up in that environment?
  • Three graduated from high school
  • One got married
  • Two went to college

The fourth child is a senior in high school with a 3.8 GPA and ranks 44 in his class of 514. He plans to major in prelaw and has scholarship offers from Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and others.

How did that happen?

Kitam and Donyetta decided they would DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to protect their children. They wanted "their kids to grow up and be part of a solution and not part of a problem."

How did they do it?

  • Kitam quit the gangs and drugs and got a job.
  • Donyetta manages their apartments to get free rent.
  • They refused other jobs to be with their children.
  • They eat together as a family every night.
  • Kids can't go anywhere without parent-permission.
  • Kids are not allowed out after dark.
  • They taught their kids about gangs in elementary school.
  • Every day Kitam drives his kids to school and back home.
  • They teach right and wrong.
  • They teach to excel.
  • They teach "don't waste time-keep busy."

What do their kids think about their super-strict parents?

  • "Special bond"
  • "Model family"
  • "Remarkable parents"
  • Have you decided to DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to protect your children?

Gangs and murder may not be ever-present threats in your neighborhood. However, there is pornography, sex, drinking, drugs, and other risks.

Have you decided to DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to protect your children?
