A Biblical Version of The Bachelor
Last Sunday in honor of Mother's Day, my adult Sunday school class studied the noble wife of Proverbs 31. I contrasted her with the adulterous woman of Proverbs 7.

A mom declared that we need to be teaching this comparison to all of our teens because it runs so counter to conventional thinking in their culture. I agree.

Try playing this Biblical version of The Bachelor as a devotional with your teens.
  1. Read Proverbs 7 and then Proverbs 31:10-31.
  2. Ask your teens, who guys would want to marry and quote the verses to defend your answer.
  3. Ask for the ways you would be able to identify this woman. Again quote verses for your answer.
Make sure each thing you list has a contrast to the other woman. Here are a few we found to get you started.

Who to marry:
  • Prov 7 - "Cost him his life," "house is a highway to the grave."
  • Prov 31 - "Lacks nothing," "good not harm, all the days of her life."
Identify - Clothes:
  • Prov 7 - "Like a prostitute."
  • Prov 31 - "Strength and dignity," not necessarily charm or beauty.

Identify - Speech:

  • Prov 7 - "Persuasive," "seductive," "smooth."
  • Prov 31 - "Wisdom," "faithful instruction."

Identify - Giving:

  • Prov 7 - Gives kisses, food, perfume, and love to young men for sex.
  • Prov 31 - Gives food to family, servants, and to the poor.

Identify - Actions:

  • Prov 7 - "Crafty," "unruly," "defiant," "never at home," "lurks."
  • Prov 31 - Business woman, provides for family, "extends hand to the needy," makes clothes, not idle.

Identify - Time of day:

  • Prov 7 - "Twilight, ... as the dark of night sets in."
  • Prov 31 - In the morning "while it is still night."

Be sure to conclude by making an application to your own life.

  • Ask teen girls if they would be identified as the Proverbs 31 woman or the Proverbs 7 woman.
  • Ask teen guys if the girls they want to date have the right characteristics of the Proverbs woman they want to marry.
Movie Teaching Sexual Abstinence
Eric is presenting the movie Look Before You Leap to students at North Garland High School this week. Last week he showed it to South Garland High School.

Imagine three 14-foot screens side by side showing a movie displayed by three projectors. This format takes the message of healthy sexuality into the media world of our teens.

This 37-minute movie uses the analogy of sky diving with choices about sex. Sky diving can be an amazing and thrilling experience. It can also be deadly. Proper training and preparation make the difference. Sex is the same way. Good choices can make it amazing and thrilling. A bad choice can bring emotional pain, teen pregnancy, STDs, or worse.

This movie is suitable for public schools but Christian schools or churches will also appreciate its message.
