Is Your Teen Addicted to Porn?

 Tests for porn addiction are helpful when a teenager is open to honestly evaluating their own behavior. They should not be forced upon anyone. Tests can also be used to show where porn can lead.
The questions below are from Steve Holladay (my partner at Ultimate Escape), Dr. Patrick Carnes (the leading expert in the field of sex addiction), my own experience, or have heard from other strugglers. To take a full test, see the references below.
Answering yes to even one question is enough to at least seek out more information about pornography addiction or be assessed by a professional counselor. Most people see this problem get worse despite their own efforts to stop. This can be fixed with treatment. - Would people in your life be upset about your sexual activities online?
- Have you used pornography even when there was considerable risk of being caught by family members and/or employers who would be upset by your behavior?
- Is masturbation a frequent activity?
- Do you feel shame or depression after sexual behavior?
- Have you gotten rid of a pornography collection and then started collecting it again?
- Do you with some regularity buy, rent, or make your own X-rated videos?
- Do you look on TV to find sexually stimulating scenes?
- Are you lying more and more to cover up pornography use?
- Do you feel like you are not in "control" of your porn use?
- Do you feel driven to look at it?
- Have you told yourself over and over "this is the last time", and then still do it again?
- Do you look at women differently? Do you focus on the sexual areas of their bodies? You know it's wrong but can't seem to help it.
- Are you seeking out new variations and types of porn?
- Have you participated in sexual behavior with someone more than 2 years younger?
