Greetings!
As we approach summer, we have broken ground and begun construction on our 18th and 19th homes in Salida. We have numerous volunteer opportunities in the coming months on the build site, from providing lunch to light construction. We also have a need for volunteers at the ReStore and serving on committees.
On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission. Without our dedicated volunteers we cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County. Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Habitat holds annual Mac & Cheese contest
Both professional and amateur cooks will compete
Do you think your macaroni & cheese recipe is the best is town? Put it to the test at our third annual Mac & Cheese Bake-Off. Bakers are needed in both the restaurant and individual categories. The winners in each category will receive a prize and bragging rights.
The event will take place on July 28th at 5 p.m. at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Pavilion. Tickets will start at $10 for adults, $5 for children and will include salad and dessert. A cash bar will also be available.
We are excited to announce Dan Cooper, Century 21Summit Realty Inc., as this year's Title Sponsor. All proceeds from this event will benefit Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity's effort to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing in our community. Our focus is not simply the construction of homes, but also the empowerment of families in Chaffee County.
If you have any questions contact the Habitat office at 395-0482.

ReStore volunteers, staff help out at build site
Members of the ReStore team help out at Starbuck
On June 28th and July 5th, a team from the ReStore got out of their usual positions at the store and headed to the Starbuck site to help build. While the ReStore helps build houses with the affiliate through sales of donated items from the community, this was a chance for those volunteers to try something different.
ReStore volunteers and staff worked on installing sheathing, blue board and Tyvek to the exterior of the homes. It was fun to see what goes into building Habitat houses. We had the opportunity to work with many other volunteers and it was a big change from being in the ReStore. It was great to see the impact that working at the ReStore has on the affiliate and the community
The ReStore is striving to sponsor an entire house from its retail sales. So come down and buy something to help us out. The ReStore has great items for sale from furniture, doors, and windows to knickknacks, dishes, and home dcor. By donating and shopping at the ReStore you can help make a family's dream of homeownership a reality.

Starbuck build making great progression
Steady stream of Chaffee volunteers really help
Throughout the last month we have completed the framing, sheathing and installation of the DOW insulation on the external walls. Additionally, all internal walls are framed. We then moved to the roof and set the trusses and installed the roof sheathing. Installation of windows and doors has begun, as well as the excavation backfilling for the concrete flatwork.
Going forward the plumber should begin rough-in work any day. A professional roofer has volunteered his services to install the shingles. This is greatly appreciated, as they have worked with us before; they do quality work at a rapid pace.
We have been blessed with a steady stream of construction volunteers, mostly from Chaffee County. The main visiting group was a Bike & Build team of 26 young people that worked with us on July 1st.
If you have not been by the build site lately, please come see the progress. We can always use volunteers, as well as lunches for our build site lunch program.
