Greetings!
As we approach summer, we have broken ground and begun construction on our 18th and 19th homes in Salida. We have numerous volunteer opportunities in the coming months on the build site, from providing lunch to light construction. We also have a need for volunteers at the ReStore and serving on committees.
On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission. Without our dedicated volunteers we cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County. Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Bike and Build cyclists head to Chaffee
Two groups will assist with build on way across U.S.
Two groups comprised of more than sixty dedicated young adults embarked on a life-changing journey with the Bike & Build Organization. The first group of cyclists left Nags Head, North Carolina on May 15th heading towards their final destination of San Diego, California. The second group departed from New Haven, Connecticut on June 2nd and will arrive at their endpoint of Half Moon Bay, California on August 14th.
Combined, these two teams ride 7,655 miles, visit multiple communities and fund-raise,while working towards their mission to benefit affordable housing and empower young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement. Their hard work, compassion and dedication to the affordable housing cause are greatly appreciated and admired throughout the United States.

Chaffee County is designated as a build stop by each of these groups. This year the teams will work at the 124/126 Starbuck Circle construction site in Salida. The NC2SD team will arrive in Buena Vista on June 30th and will spend July 1st at the build site. The CT2CA team will reach Salida on July 16th and will work at the site on July 17th. Each team will cruise into the valley with the purpose of assisting Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in providing decent, affordable housing in our community. If you would like to help us welcome these teams or provide meals, please contact Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity at 719-395-0482 or email angela@chaffeehabitat.org.

A big thank you to Wayne and Jan Mitchell
Thanks to their help our interns have a place to live

Very special thanks to Wayne and Jan Mitchell for their generous support of our internship program! They have graciously provided housing for the 2016 Summer Interns at their home in Trail West.
So far, the experience has been amazing for our interns and they have wonderful things to say about their stay in Colorado.
We wouldn't have an internship program this summer without Wayne and Jan Mitchell providing this generous donation of living quarters for our interns.
Many thanks, Wayne and Jan!

RV Care-A-Vanners jump right into build
Mike and Robin Herb spend two weeks helping in Salida
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity was fortunate to have Mike and Robin Herb, RV Care-A-Vanners, spend two weeks with us in May 2016, working with Habitat Volunteers on the Starbuck Circle Build Site. This was the first visit to Chaffee County for this RV-Care-A-Vanners group and we truly enjoyed having them assist with various construction phases during their visit. Mike and Robin did a fantastic job of "jumping in" and helping wherever they were needed. They both worked tirelessly through sun, rain, wind and un-seasonally cold Colorado spring temperatures, without a single complaint! Mike and Robin thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful views of Chaffee County during their stay and spent time exploring many of the treasures of the Arkansas Valley. RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it. RV Care-A-Vanners welcomes people of all ages, from all walks of life who want to pick up a hammer and help change lives. There are ample opportunities to learn and plenty of meaningful work for everyone. No previous construction experience is necessary!
We at Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity would like to send a sincere thank you to the 2016 RV Care-A-Vanners group for making the decision to dedicate their time and effort to building a decent, affordable home in Chaffee County, Colorado! We would also like to extend a warm invitation to the RV Care-A-Vanners Community for the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity 2017 Build Season. Start planning now for your adventure to colorful Colorado and enjoy all of the treasures that Chaffee County has to offer!

June Volunteer - Molly Shethar
Volunteer Coordinator helps CCHfH volunteers find their best fit
Molly Shethar Position: Volunteer Coordinator and Habitat Board Member (term ending June 2016) I have been involved with Habitat since 2008. I retired from teaching at the BV Correctional Facility in 2006 and finally had some free time to donate to my community. I went on a mission trip to New Mexico with the Congregational Church to help build a home. It was a great experience, but I decided that instead of actually building that I would rather become involved with the Habitat board. I have lived in Buena Vista since 1977 and I know quite a few people in the community. Volunteer Coordinator seemed a logical role for me to fill and I spent many years coordinating our volunteers to work in the ReStore, the office, the build site, and/or donate food and raise awareness in the community about Habitat. Habitat helps families to become homeowners and stable members of the community. I have met and worked with a lot of caring and wonderful people who compose the Habitat Team. These are all the volunteers who donate their time to improve another person's life. They are amazing and this is why I have been involved with Habitat and find this so rewarding. Favorite memory - During a home dedication ceremony- a family told their personal story. They had suffered through hard times in their life. Due to the volunteers and the offenders from the BV Correctional Facility who helped to build them a home, they are able to provide a safe place for their two children to grow up in. It was very emotional and heartfelt- there wasn't a dry eye in the house My hobbies - I collect old metal pieces and broken glass to make art projects.

Framing begins on Starbuck Circle homes
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity broke ground on our 18th and 19th Habitat Homes on January 8th, 2016.
The excavation and structural concrete are complete; currently, we are working on the framing phase of the project. We would like to invite everyone to get involved in the 2016 CCHfH summer build season.
We rely primarily on volunteers to help us build and could never accomplish our mission without their generosity. You can be a part of our efforts by contributing in one of three ways: - By volunteering your time to building at the Starbuck Circle home site.
- By a monetary donation toward the building of homes.
- Sponsorship of meals for the build site volunteers.
Team Build Days are a great opportunity for a company to engage their employees in a positive team-building activity while tangibly giving back to the community.
