Greetings!
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity has hit the ground running in 2016! We started the new year off right, breaking ground on our our 18th and 19th homes in Salida on January 8th. We have two new members to our Board of Directors, Charlie Chupp and Chris Reitter. And the ReStore is continuing discounts for seniors and military personnel every Friday.
On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission. Without our dedicated volunteers we cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County. Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

County students hold snack drives for HfH
Crest Academy and BV High School collect for Habitat
Students from the Crest Academy held their first snack drive on April 15th at Safeway in Salida. A group of four courteous students greeted customers and requested snack items for the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity build site volunteers. They all worked really hard and the Safeway shoppers donated several boxes filled with a variety of hearty snacks, as well as cash donations. We would especially like to thank Safeway for allowing the Crest Academy to setup a CCHfH Snack Drive booth at the store entrance and the Crest Academy for their contribution to our summer build program.
On April 23rd the Buena Vista High School Interact Club went out in full-force for their Second Annual Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity Snack Drive. Their booth was setup at the entrance of City Market in Buena Vista. The snack drive was a huge success and about ten students from the BVHS Interact Club participated in the event. Customers donated a vast array of snacks and cash donations to our summer build site program. We would like to thank City Market for accommodating the BVHS Interact Club's booth at the store entrance, as well as Bill Fabian and the BVHS Interact Club for their hard work and dedication to the CCHfH summer build season.
Chaffee County certainly came together to support Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in working towards their mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.

2016 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
Volunteers are the Key to Our Success
About 65 people attended the 2016 Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Friday, April 22nd at the Buena Vista Community Center. This year's theme was Volunteers are the Key to Our Success. We truly appreciate each of our volunteers, every minute of time they give, and all of their hard work and dedication to CCHfH. Throughout the evening, volunteers enjoyed dinner, beverages and desserts, as well as lots of prizes and a CCHfH Volunteer slideshow. Tim and Francie Allen from The Midland Stop donated a delicious Key Lime gelato, specially prepared for our themed event, Sue Shoemaker contributed one of her amazing chocolate sheet cakes and a group of ladies from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a variety of salads. Tom Rollings did a fabulous job as the MC for the evening and kept everyone on-point and entertained, and The BV Main Street Organization donated the use of their microphone/sound system. The Town of Buena Vista Board of Trustees waived the fee for use of the BV Community Center, and Emily Osborn from the Buena Vista Recreation Department was extremely helpful with the room logistics. This year's door prizes were generously donated by Beth & Dan Cooper, Bill & Jean Reed, Chris Reitter, Colleen Rollings, Cool Beans Coffee, Intentions Spa, Love's Travel Plaza, Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort, Norene's Kitchen, Simple Eatery & Spoon It Up, The Adventure Company, The Trailhead, Tractor Supply Company, and Violet Hanratty, Mary Kay Sales Consultant. We would also like to acknowledge everyone that helped with setting up the event and cleaning up afterwards. This year's event was a huge success thanks to countless individuals and businesses that contributed to the 2016 Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

Chaffee County welcomes 2016 Interns
Four interns join CCHfH for Summer Internships
Nada Abdellatif

My name is Nada Abdellatif. I am a 20 -year-old Egyptian American student. I
am originally from New York; however, I've lived all my life re-locating from one country to another. Starting from the USA and all the way to the Middle East. I am currently in my senior year at the American University in Cairo and I can't wait for graduation so that I can freely travel to the exquisitely naturally beautiful cities of the world. That being said, BV would be my first destination! I can't wait to experience all the outdoor activities in BV, especially hiking. I am at my happiest state if I am immersed behind my kindle, staying over at my best friends' or spending quality time with my grandpa. I also love animals so much and have a special spot for dogs, but unfortunately never got a chance to own one, so during my free time you'll most probably find me hanging out at the animal shelter; I guess I do belong in Colorado after all!
Hailey Purdy
As a student at Kansas State University, I am currently pursuing a degree in public relations with a minor in leadership studies. I love writing, photography and design. I'm an avid list-maker and prefer to spend most of my time outdoors. In my free time you can probably find me doing yoga, drinking coffee or reading a good book. I am beyond excited and thankful for the opportunity to intern with Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity as well as spend the upcoming summer in the colorful state of Colorado. I specifically can't wait to explore the town of Buena Vista.

Chaffee County Home and Garden Show
Habitat gets their message out to public during the show
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity was one of approximately seventy booths at the fourth annual Chaffee Home and Garden Show held on April 16th and 17th. Even with a couple feet of spring snow, spirits were bright and lots of visitors stopped by to visit with volunteers at the CCHfH booth on Saturday and Sunday. Throughout the weekend, visitors were encouraged to guess how many marbles were in the acrylic house-shaped box. To our surprise, we actually had a tie in the contest. We had not considered there might be a tie, hence it was decided that both people who guessed 1, 190 marbles (their guesses were only 10 marbles different than the actual number of 1,200) would win a Milwaukee stereo. The lucky winners were Becky Doss and Geoff Brown.
