Greetings!

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity has hit the ground running in 2016!  We started the new year off right, breaking ground on our our 18th and 19th homes in Salida on January 8th. We have two new members to our Board of Directors, Charlie Chupp and Chris Reitter. And the ReStore is continuing discounts for seniors and military personnel every Friday.

On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission. Without our dedicated volunteers we cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County. Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

CCHfH continues to grow & serve community
Purchase of building will help in future growth

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity was created in 2000 and completed our first home in 2002.  We are in the process of building our 18th and 19th homes this year.  We thank the community for your continued support.

Initially our administrative office was a single room on the second floor of the Town Square complex on Main Street in BV that was staffed part time by volunteers.  In 2010 we moved to 213 Tabor St.  This location provided similar office space but included a two car garage where we started the ReStore to sell used construction materials to raise money to support our mission of home construction.  Within a few months an outside lot next door was rented to handle more items for sale.
The ReStore continued to grow and in 2011 we started searching for a larger facility to support continued growth of our organization.  We settled on 27951 County Road 319 which is our current location and moved in to rented space in June of that year.  Initially the space we rented was similar in size to Tabor but included much more indoor retail space.  One of the many attractions to the CR 319 location was room for significant expansion.  In addition the administrative offices were collocated which allowed for an efficient operation.

Over the next four years both the administrative and ReStore needs grew to the point that we occupied over half of the CR 319 property.  Once again many thanks go to the community for your support.  To improve our sustainability and provide a foundation for solid growth, the decision was made to purchase the property and an agreement was reached in early 2016.  The paperwork was prepared and closing occurred on March 4.  With this step the ReStore grew to 7000 sq. ft. of indoor and 25,000+ sq. ft. of outdoor retail space.  We are in the process of updating the ground floor office space to handle the needs of our administrative staff.

For each of the last four years we have successfully built and sold two homes (duplex).  We are proud of this track record but determined to do even more in the future as the need for affordable housing in Chaffee County continues to grow.  Please stop by to visit our home as we continue our efforts to provide affordable housing to our neighbors that need a 'Hand Up Not a Hand Out.'

Megan Wills

How long have you been involved with CCHfH?
I started volunteering at CCHfH in the fall of 2014.

Why are you a part of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity team?
I initially got involved with CCHfH as a place where I can bring my students to volunteer and do community service work.

Do you have a favorite memory since you've been involved with Habitat?
I have a number of great memories from working with habitat but one of the funniest was when working in the paint room with my students, I was moving a can of paint above my head and it opened and dumped all over me, covering my hair and my clothes. We couldn't do anything but stand there and laugh.

What benefit do you get from volunteering?
I love being able to help out and serve my community. Bringing my students with me regularly, it is a great way to get them started on serving others. I hope it becomes a life- long habit!

What are your hobbies?
Hiking, Swimming, Duckying, Quilting

One thing that would surprise someone to learn about me is....
I've been sky-diving!

Why would you recommend others volunteer with CCHfH?
CCHfH is a wonderful place to support and is filled with people who want to be here and help out. I highly recommend that you join the CCHfH community and volunteer regularly if you are at all interested!

CCHfH is grateful to have Megan and her students come to the ReStore weekly and work on projects that improve the efficiency of the store.

Charitable Lead Trusts

Discover a powerful way to make a gift to Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in your name or in the name of a loved one while realizing tax benefits for your kindness.

Do you want to benefit from the tax savings that result from supporting Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity, yet you don't want to give up any assets that you'd like your family to receive someday? You can have it both ways with a charitable lead trust.

With a charitable lead trust, you give assets to a trust that pays Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity an income for a number of years, which you choose. The longer the length of time, the better the gift tax savings for you. When the term is up, the remaining trust assets go to you, your family or other beneficiaries you select.  Always contact your financial advisor to see if a Charitable Lead Trust is right for you.
