Greetings!

So far, 2015 has been a great year, with two builds complete, plans taking shape for 2016 and the addition of Dan Cooper to the board. Stop by the ReStore and welcome Violet Hanratty, our new ReStore Manager. Beginning this month, every Friday seniors and military personnel will enjoy discounts throughout the store.

On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission. Without our dedicated volunteers we cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County. Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

In memory of Habitat friend Dennis Riley
Riley involved in construction of 14 Habitat Homes
Dennis Riley

We lost a true friend and dedicated Habitat supporter in October with the passing of Dennis Riley. Dennis was involved in the construction of 14 of the 17 homes built by Habitat in Chaffee County. He was a warm and welcoming individual that was best known for making instant friends with any new volunteer, regaling them with stories of his family, how many times he'd skied, and the fact the he'd gone to the same barber in Indiana for 38 years. Us "old timers" would bet on which story Dennis would tell next, since we'd heard them all several times. The job sites won't be the same without him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dennis and his family.
InsBREWation a big success for Habitat, artists
Over sixty-five attend second annual sold-out event

Over sixty-five community members came together Nov. 14 for the second annual ReStorative Arts InsBREWation, an evening of dinner, drinks, arts and an auction to benefit Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity and Chaffee Arts Council. Last year Chaffee County Habitat received $1,000 from the event and expect to exceed that amount this year.

CCHFH would like to thank all those who participated in the event by purchasing tickets, bidding on auction items and for supporting our mission to provide decent, affordable housing to families in need.

Eddyline restaurant and brewery collaborated with the Habitat ReStore and members of the Chaffee Arts Council to raise funds for both causes.

The Habitat ReStore donated items to members of the Arts Council, who then turned those items into art pieces, which were auctioned off at the end of the evening.

Eddyline, who hosted the dinner, offered items paired with their various beers. This year The Midland Stop joined in the fun providing the dessert!

Appetizer: Pomegranate quinoa and goat cheese stuffed acorn squash, paired with fresh hop ale

Salad: Arugula with caramelized butternut squash, avocado, walnuts with a pomegranate and ginger dressing, paired with Oktoberfest

Entree: Grilled Rack of Lamb with mint sauce served with roasted pomegranate brussel sprouts topped with pumpkin seeds, paired with Crank Yanker IPA

Dessert: Homemade pomegranate mascarpone gelato served with an Italian almond cookie, paired with 14'er Java Stout
Leave your legacy through Planned Giving
Help bring hope to future generations of families in need

There are almost as many variations on ways to make a donation as there are needs to be met. This series explores new ways to make a gift that also take into consideration your personal circumstances and the needs of your heirs. We encourage you to contact your financial advisor or attorney to see which planned giving path is right for you.

BEQUESTS

Include Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in your will. Known as a bequest, this is a simple way to protect your love ones first and then give back. Help others and Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity by using one of the simplest and most popular ways to make a gift. We hope you'll consider including a gift to Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in your will or living trust.

A charitable bequest gift offers these main benefits:

  • Simplicity - Just a few sentences in your will or trust are all that is needed.
  • Flexibility - Because you are not actually making a gift until after your lifetime and we understand your circumstances may change, you can change your gift at any time.
  • Versatility - You can structure the bequest to leave a specific item or amount of money, make the gift contingent on certain events, or leave a percentage of your estate to Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity.
  • Tax Relief - If your estate is subject to estate tax, your gift is entitled to an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift's full value. Please check with your attorney or financial advisor for complete tax relief information.
