Greetings!

On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission.

We cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County without you! Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Ruby Mountain home dedicated July 19

The 2015 Blitz Build home an "exciting opportunity"

The Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity home dedication for 11450 Ruby Mountain Lane in Nathrop, Colorado was held on Friday June 19, 2015. The house was Chaffee County Habitat's 2015 Blitz Build project. Home Builders Blitz is an exciting opportunity for Habitat for Humanity affiliates and professional builders to partner together to build and renovate homes across the U.S. Thanks to a partnership with Diesslin Structures Inc. and the help of numerous other local businesses and core volunteers Chaffee County Habitat was able to construct this home in just two weeks. The work force varied between 10-25 individuals on site each day. The family Katie, Justin, and their daughter Dezirray Frank, are eager to move in to their new Nathrop home. Katie and Justin both work in Buena Vista, and thanks to Chaffee County Habitat, will soon be local homeowners as well.

As part of the partnership with Habitat new homeowners are required to donate "sweat equity" hours. "Sweat Equity" is a unique Habitat policy that requires partner families to contribute a certain number of labor hours to the construction of their own and other's Habitat homes. "It's probably the hardest, but most fun thing I've ever done," said Katie about working on the job site to help create her new home. "It's more rewarding than just putting money down."

This 2015 Blitz Build would not have been possible without our core volunteers, sub-contractors, Diesslin Structures Inc. and all of our other generous sponsors. Rebecca Hauser with Diesslin Structures coordinated the 2015 Home Builders Blitz. After the dedication prayer led by Clarke Poos, Rebecca presented the new homeowners with their first set of keys to the property. Thanks to the support Habitat received during this Blitz Build a local family now has a brand new house to call home.

Women Build 2015 coming July 17-18

Women Build crews built more then 2,300 homes

In 1991 a group of women in Charlotte, North Carolina completed the first ever Habitat for Humanity Women Build. These women set out to dedicate a day to helping empower women on the Habitat for Humanity build sites and by 2010 Women Build volunteers built more than 1,650 houses across the country.

Women Build is Habitat for Humanity's program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. As of 2012 more than 1,900 Women Build events take place across the United States each year and six Women Build Global Village teams volunteer internationally. In 2014 alone Women Build crews built more than 2,300 homes. The program continues to grow across international borders, empowering women everywhere to address poverty housing for themselves, their families and their neighbors.

The Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity 2015 Women Build is fast approaching. The event will be held on July 17th- 18th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 12872D County Rd 314B in Buena Vista, Colorado. We are looking for both men and women to volunteer for the event. All ages and skill levels are welcome. No experience is necessary!

Signup sheets are available at the Habitat Restore and links available to sign up online on our Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity Facebook page and website. Don't miss out on a great opportunity to help give back to our Chaffee County community.

Elizabeth Weber: New Summer Intern

Colorado native joins Chaffee County Habitat

My name is Elizabeth Weber I am currently going into my senior year of college at the University of Northern Colorado. I am majoring in Business with an emphasis in Marketing. I hope to someday work as an international marketing consultant. Through this internship I hope to gain insight on what working as a part of a marketing team for a nonprofit group entails.

I grew up in Colorado Springs and I have spent every summer since I was young camping and enjoying mountain activities. My favorite past times for summer include rafting and hiking. I am excited to be able to live in the mountains all summer and I look forward to hiking some of the fourteeners in the Buena Vista Area!

I spent last semester studying abroad in Trieste, Italy and was fortunate enough to spend those months exploring Europe. I am happy to be back in Colorado and I look forward to the coming months working for Habitat. I am ready to learn all about life as a Marketing and PR intern!

2015 Summer Construction Update

Blitz build should be finished in approximately 10 days

Last month the Blitz Build was progressing well. We were successful at completing 95% of the Ruby Mtn home in two weeks. It was a busy time but very exciting. A plumbing leak discovered after the dedication set us back a bit requiring some of the flooring to be replaced. We are once again working on the finishing touches. This home should be complete in approximately 10 days.

At the same time we have been working hard on the Johnson Village home. The sheetrock has been installed. Mudding the drywall is well under way. Additional volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated. The next steps are texturing, painting and installation of trim. Please stop by and see this wonderful home.
