RV Care-A-Vanners jump right in to build
Robert and Cheryl Moll spend week helping out at Johnson Village
RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it. RV Care-A-Vanners welcomes people of all ages, from all walks of life who want to pick up a hammer and help change lives. There are ample opportunities to learn and plenty of meaningful work for everyone. No previous construction experience is necessary!
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity was fortunate to have Robert and Cheryl Moll, RV Care-A-Vanners, spend a week in May 2015, working with Habitat Volunteers on the Johnson Village Build Site. This was the first visit to Chaffee County for the RV-Care-A-Vanners group and we truly enjoyed having them assist with various construction phases during their visit.
Robert & Cheryl did a fantastic job of "jumping in" and helping wherever they were needed. They both worked tirelessly through sun, rain, snow, wind and un-seasonally cold Colorado spring temperatures, without a single complaint! This must have been particularly challenging considering they just arrived from sunny Florida. Robert & Cheryl thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful views of Buena Vista during their stay and spent time exploring many of the treasures of the Arkansas Valley.
We at Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity would like to send a sincere thank you to the Pioneers of the RV Care-A-Vanners group for making the decision to dedicate their time and effort to building a decent, affordable home in Chaffee County, Colorado!
We would also like to extend a warm invitation to the RV Care-A-Vanners Community for the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity 2016 Build Season. Start planning now for your adventure to colorful Colorado and enjoy all of the treasures that Chaffee County has to offer!

Ruby Mountain Blitz Build almost finished
Dedication ceremony set for June 19 at 3 p.m.
On June 5 a large crew rolled up to our build site on Ruby Mountain Lane in Nathrop to begin our 2015 Blitz Build. This project is a partnership between the professional building community in our area and Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity. The goal is to complete a home in two weeks.
Come and help us celebrate this great accomplishment which will benefit the Frank family. The dedication ceremony will be June 19 at 3 p.m. The address is 11450 Ruby Mountain Lane in Nathrop (look for the large sign near Hwy 285).
One year ago Diesslin Structures Inc. (DSI) agreed to be the lead for the professional community. Rebecca Hauser is the Project Manager and has dedicated a significant amount of time lining up all the technical support to make the project a success.
The work force varies between 10 - 25 individuals each day. After one week the structure was dried-in and passed the rough-in plumbing and electrical inspections. On a normal build is takes Habitat approximately three months to get to this point. Even with this great progress there was no time to stop and admire our work. We immediately moved on to insulating, drywall and painting. By the time you read this the flooring and cabinets will be installed. Final touches will take one day.
Here are the main supporters:

Daniel Aburto: New Summer Intern
Aburto raised around construction and architecture in Texas

My name is Daniel Aburto and I am a rising Senior at the University of Texas at Austin. I will be graduating next year, 2016, majoring in Urban Studies with a minor in Architecture.
I lived in Mexico until I turned eleven years old and then moved to El Paso Texas, where my father began to work as an Interior Designer. He took me to work with him, on many of his projects, to constructions sites where I began to raise an interest in construction and architecture. Eventually, I participated with homebuilders, for the remodeling of some of their houses, and also got the opportunity to work with the city of El Paso to design an underpass on Downtown El Paso.
I'm really excited for this summer internship opportunity in Buena Vista because of how much I will be able to learn about construction, and also meeting all the people that it takes to make someone's new home. I'm not only excited to learn and work, but I am also intrigued to hang out with my roommates and participate in all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer.

Volunteer Spotlight: Mark Kauffman
Kauffman helps with photography and construction labor
Name: Mark Kauffman
Hometown: McCook, Nebraska
Education: Bachelor's Degree- Social Studies Education; Master's Degree- Reading Curriculum Development
CCHFH: Photographer of Habitat events, Laborer at the Nathrop and Johnson Village builds
Length of time with Habitat: Approximately three years
Favorite experience with Habitat: Dabbling in home repair and remodeling, I never really knew the correct construction techniques. Then, I was required to teach, Fundamentals of Career Technical Education, which included construction. Often the students knew than me.
This volunteering has given me a chance to actually learn correct technique in a very nonjudgmental environment. Not only am I getting a chance to give to others, I am learning everyday I'm at the job site. Thank you for this experience.
Experiences and Hobbies: Many hobbies come to mind. Most recently, riding bicycles has predominantly occupied my free time. Not only is it a fun, economical way to get around, but also good for my health. As always, though, reading is at the top. I like poetry, history and general fiction.

Construction Update - Johnson Village
Build temporarily suspended to focus on Blitz Build
Johnson Village is ready to begin interior finishing. This build has been our main focus since breaking ground in January. During the early months we worked on average two days per week when the weather was good. As we moved into warmer weather the work schedule expanded to our normal five days per week. Progress has been steady with a small group of dedicated volunteers and the offender crew in our partnership training program.
At this point the house is dried in with the exterior finished with windows, doors and paint minus roof shingles. The interior rough-in plumbing and electrical is complete and both have passed inspection. This was a great place to leave the home for the two week Blitz Build in Nathrop.
Sometime during the fourth week of June we will be returning to JV to begin installing sheet rock. From that point we plan on working steadily through completion in late August to early September. Come join us.
