Greetings!
On behalf of the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity staff, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their continued support of the Habitat mission.
We cannot build affordable housing in Chaffee County without you! Whether you are volunteering your time, talent or resources, it does make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

Family Spotlight: The Frank Family
Frank family excited and blessed to be receiving a home
Justin and Katie and their beautiful baby girl Dezirray are a young family just starting out.
They are of the working class family, and trying to rent or even buy a home was difficult. So with the love and support of family they applied for a habitat home. Not only to get a cheaper home, but to have a home to build a life around.
Justin is currently working as a Tow Truck driver for Gunsmoke Towing and Recovery, he enjoys going to the park with his little girl, and outdoor activities are his best hobbies.
Katie just got a new job at Loaf N'Jug and is doing very well as a cashier clerk. She likes to hike, fish swim, and play outside with her daughter and family.
Their little girl is growing healthy and happy; right now her favorite thing to do is go outside. Dezirray loves the park, and she thinks the swings and slide are the most fun. She likes to play in water and enjoys playing fetch her dog Quigley.
Justin, Katie, and their young daughter are going to be able to have a home to call their own. Most important Justin, Katie, & Dezirray would like to thank the CCHFH for choosing our growing family for the home is a dream comes true. Thanks to all the volunteers, the nice people who made this all possible.

Erin Bissette: New Summer Intern
Bissette excited to work for Habitat and explore coffee shops

I'm a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying public relations in the journalism school.
I am most excited to be able to wear chacos to work, but least excited to spend the summer away from my dog, who lives in my hometown of Charlotte, NC.
After work, I can probably be found running, listening to bluegrass, hiking, watching a rerun of The Office, or all of the above.
I can't wait to get to know everyone involved with Habitat this summer, and discover the best coffee shop in Chaffee County.

Joshua Garza: New Summer Intern
Native Texan excited to spend summer in Buena Vista

Joshua Garza is a Corporate Communication Sophomore at the University of Texas and is incredibly excited to be relocating to Buena Vista for the summer!
Josh is a native Austinite and has had a passion for home building and architecture from a very young age and sees this internship as an opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience a beautiful part of the country. He is excited to be able to spend a summer here in Buena Vista and looks forward to meeting the many Habitat for Humanity volunteers there in Chaffee County.
Along with Josh's passion for homes he brings two years of project management experience as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. Josh founded Garza Capital, a small landscape design and maintenance company in November of 2012 and has enjoyed getting to see his business grow.
While attending The University of Texas at Austin Josh has become involved in a number of organizations and local engagements. Josh serves on the Executive Board of Christians in Business Organization, as the Financial Director for Campus Men's Initiative, is a Community Member for the Strategic Planning team for Austin Independent School District and enjoys leading his small group of 7th grade students at his local church.

Celebrating Earth Day with recycling
ReStore opened its doors to allow electronics recycling for Earth Day
The Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Buena Vista hosted an electronic recycling event April 25 in conjunction with Earth Day.
Clarke Poos, ReStore manager, had advertised that they would take anything that plugs in, even large appliances, on that day.
It took 15 volunteers and the support of Knight Electronics in Salida to pull off the event. Knight Electronics organized it, Poos said, and they are expediting the recycling of the load that measured 5 feet high, 675 feet long and 20 feet deep. It's taken SEVERAL horse trailer loads to remove it from the ReStore parking lot and as of Tuesday May 5, we still have at least one more load to go.
"We kept that entire pile from going to the landfill," Poos said.
While Poos knew it would be a big event, he never thought the turnout would be as huge and fantastic as it was.
"There were always one-to-three cars lined up from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with never a break," he said.
Poos said that the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity ReStore will probably do this again next year. He wants to emphasize that this was a one time special event on April 25. We are not collecting electronics on a regular basis.
