Just us for an evening of dinner, art, brews and an auction
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity is proud to announce the inaugural ReStorative Arts InsBREWation, an evening of dinner, drinks, art and an auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity and the Chaffee Arts Council, starting at 5 p.m. November 5.

Volunteer Spotlight: Mary Grannell
Mary enjoys seeing families work toward and reach their goals
Home and Career: I grew up on a small farm in southern Illinois. After graduating from high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Illinois, earning a degree in secondary science education. I taught for four years in a junior high in Galesburg, Illinois.
I then moved to Colorado where I got my Master's Degree in school counseling at the University of Colorado and spent the next 26 years teaching science and counseling at junior high and middle schools in the Denver Public Schools.
I spent seven summers as assistant director at Sanborn Western Camps at Florissant, Co. and have always enjoyed doing volunteer work. After retirement we moved to Salida and spent 10 winters in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas where I was the activity director for 3 winters in the RV park where we stayed.
Work with Habitat: I am the coach for one of the families who will be living in the new duplex being build this year.
Reason for helping others: I truly enjoy working with and seeing individuals and families work toward and reach their goals, whether it be in education, employment, living situations, etc. What a joy it is to see them work so hard and gain the success they strive for. Whatever it is I can do to encourage and help with that success is what I enjoy.
Favorite experience at Habitat: I have enjoyed getting to know my family and working with them at the build site, with their training programs and with the girls on a special project for their new home.
Hobbies: I enjoy working in my yard, sewing, quilting, knitting and just about any kind of needlework. I like making things for my friends and family.

Interior work started on build site
Drywall mudding and texturing finishing up, beginning painting
Drywall mudding and taping has been finished in one side of the duplex, and should be finished on the other by the time our newsletter reaches your inboxes. The areas that are finished have been primed and are ready to start painting.
The next step is laying down the vinyl flooring, which needs at least a 65 degree day to get started, so hope for good weather.
Work continues from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and the regulars, who deserve a special thank-you, would always love to have a few extra hands to help out.

Habitat welcomes new Project Coordinator
Andrea Kimmell brings experience to her new position
Hello, my name is Andrea Kimmell and I am excited to join Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity as the new Program Coordinator. Non-profit organizations are near and dear to my heart. I hold both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Human Services and am thrilled to be utilizing my education with such an amazing organization. As the program coordinator I will be running the internship program, finding and organizing build site services, working in the office and generally trying to be helpful! I look forward to working with so many volunteers. In my experience, volunteers are just great people. Feel free to stop by and say hello. I would love to meet you. |
