Greetings!

Habitat for Humanity volunteers are busy planning the next season of building affordable housing in Chaffee County. The building permits are in-hand for the duplex to be built next to last year's duplex on Crestone Avenue. This will be the 14th & 15th homes Chaffee County volunteers construct alongside local families.

Volunteers are still needed to coordinate meals, snacks, build days, volunteering and special events for this summer. If one of these tasks sounds fun or you have another idea, please call us to talk about pitching in.

Thank you to everyone who has already made a commitment.

We offer Hard Hat Tours on our Build Site

A chance to take a free tour on our construction site in Salida

Building Hope with Homes!

Ever wondered how Habitat for Humanity builds houses?

How families become house owners?

And how a construction site, built by mostly volunteers, looks?

This is the first time in Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity's history where we're offering tours on our build site. Once you put your hard hat on, the fun begins. On these tours all our guests will have the chance to learn facts about Habitat for Humanity and see the build site, from the perspective of our construction supervisor.

We offer free tours, fun and information for every person's taste.

The Hard Hat Tours will take place on May 8th, 9th and 10th and won't last longer than one hour.

We still have some places available! If you're interested in our Hard Hat Tours, just call us today and sign up! (719-395-0482)

Esther's House Showing, A Big Success

Esther opened her house for friends and volunteers

During the last weeks Esther got things organized in her new home. Friends and Volunteers were already excited to finally see Esther's new house, so Esther invited them to a house showing party.

It turned out to be a wonderful surprise for everybody. All visitors were welcomed with a delicious variety of food and snacks, which Esther prepared with the help of some volunteers. However, most guests were even more impressed after they glanced up from the snack table and looked around the house. Esther managed to give her house a tasteful style and a warm, personal touch. You could see that this house is now a home, Esther's home!

In one room she even already started to prepare plants for her garden.

Even Esther experienced an encouraging surprise on that day:

"I was overwhelmed with joy and appreciation when Habitat provided me with the housewarming party and Bible ceremony, welcoming me to the Habitat family. I was surprised by how many people came to   share their blessings and prayers for my new home. I'm looking forward to having a garden because I have never had a garden before. Thank you so much."

We love to be part of success stories like this. What a joy to see Esther in the Johnson Village home she now owns.

Chaffee County Home and Garden Show

Habitat gets their message out to the public during the show in Salida

With lots of visitors stopping by the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity booth at the Chaffee County Home and Garden Show on Saturday and Sunday, over 30 volunteers signed up to help out.

Intern Marlene Schindler took many trips through the two buildings at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds, touting Habitat's new "Hard Hat Tours," an invitation for all community members to learn more about this community effort.

"I was surprised at how many younger people we had interested in volunteering," Marlene said. "It's great to see people in their 20's so eager to help out.

The ReStore was also on hand, with items for sale.

This newsletter is dedicated to every volunteer, donor, and ReStore shopper. You are the reason families in this community realize transformed lives and homeownership. Thank you for believing in the mission that brings us together: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Please keep us in your prayers as the community comes together to accomplish this transformational work.

Sincerely,
Kim Brenner
