Hall County unveils new logo
 
 
 
Hall County Government unveiled its new logo at the Board of Commissioners meeting on May 8 at the Hall County Government Center.

''We are excited to brand Hall County with an innovative, modern design that represents the growth and progress that exists here and also represents this area's natural resources,'' said Hall County Commission Chairman Richard Mecum.  Read more here.
Yamala receives top alumnus award from University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Hall County's Planning Director Srikanth Yamala was named the Outstanding International Alumnus Award 2014 Winner this week by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The Outstanding International Alumnus Award was established in 2006 to honor alumni who were non-U.S. citizens during their attendance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and who have attained national/international prominence through their efforts in education, sciences, technology, agriculture, the arts, business, humanities, government or other world endeavors.  Read more here.
Town Hall Meeting set for June 3 at North Hall Park

Hall County District 3 Commissioner Scott Gibbs is hosting a Community Open House at the North Hall Park Community Center on June 3 at 6 p.m. 

Representatives from the Hall County Finance Department, Public Works Department, Parks and Leisure and Sheriff's Office will be available to respond to citizens' concerns regarding their respective departments and offer insight into how their department serves citizens in their area of the County.

Topics will include the Fiscal Year 2015 budget, public safety, and other issues of interest to District 3 residents. 

North Hall Park is located at 4175 Nopone Road, Gainesville. 

Hall Co. Public Works Department honored in May
  
District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell presents members of the Public Works Department with a proclamation on May 22.

 The Hall County Public Works Department was honored during the Hall County Board of Commissioners meeting on May 22 as part of National Public Works Week, celebrated May 18- 24 this year.   

 

Members of Hall County Public Works were presented with a proclamation at the meeting which read, "Public Works infrastructure, facilities and services are of vital importance to the health, safety and well-being of people in the United States." 

 

The proclamation went on to say that those facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, who often serve alongside public safety personnel in the event of natural or man-made disasters, managing the clean-up until it is complete.

Citizen's Alert System will now include persons of interest alerts
  
citizen's alertHall County will now use the Citizen's Alert System to inform the public about a person or persons involved in specific incidents such as missing child/person reports, inmate escapes and persons of interest searches.

''The notification will contain all pertinent information such as a physical description and last known location,'' Hall County 911 Director Gail Lane said. ''The citizen will be told to call 911 if they have information about the individual, but the notification's main purpose is to keep citizens informed, especially if this is occurring in their area.''

Lane said the new alert type may go out to all citizens countywide or may be sent to residents in a specific area, depending on the circumstances of the situation.  Read more here.
Tire flipping World Record attempt to raise funds for Fire Services 
  

Gainesville resident, fitness guru and current Word Record Holder Greg Cochran is "Flipping for Fitness" to raise funds for fitness equipment for Hall County firefighters and EMTs.  He will be attempting to break the World Record of 203 flips of a 555 pound tire in one hour.

upport of local businesses and Gainesville residents to create a "fliptastic" event open to the public.  BWW will donate 10 percent of food sales between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the day of the event to this cause.  There will be music, a dunk tank, an opportunity to meet the BWW Mascot, face painting, a bungee run and more!

Resource Recovery recognizes Tadmore Elementary for recycling efforts

Hall County Resource Recovery recognized Tadmore Elementary School for recycling the most pounds per student during the 2013-2014 school year.  Resource Recovery used grant funds to purchase recycling bins for all Hall County Schools during the 2010-2011 school year.  This year they partnered with Pratt Recycling as the sole recycler servicing the schools.  In turn, Pratt offered $100 to the Hall County school who recycled the most.

 

 

The schools with the most recycling during the past year are listed below:

 

1.       Tadmore                            10.81 lbs./student

2.       McEver                              10.17 lbs./student

3.       DaVinci                                9.85 lbs./student

4.       N. Hall High                         8.94 lbs./student

5.       Chestatee High                  6.65 lbs./student
