Hall County receives Most Fit Company Award

Hall County Government received the Most Fit Company Award from the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce during the HealthSmart Breakfast at the Gainesville Civic Center on Oct. 9. Hall County was the recipient of the award in the Large company category (251+ employees).

According to officials with the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, judging criteria for the award included wellness, nutrition and fitness opportunities for employees.

Hall County Government was commended during the awards ceremony for their Healthy Hall County program, the County's health-based initiative geared toward Hall County employees, their dependents and retirees.  Read more here.

Hall County voters head to the polls   voters  
 Hall County Elections officials are gearing up for Election Day on Nov. 5.  As a reminder, voters must show proper identification in order to cast a ballot.  That includes the following:

(1) Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a FREE Voter ID Card issued by the Hall County Registrar's Office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS);

(2) A Georgia Driver's License, even if expired;

(3) Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this State;

(4) Valid U.S. passport ID;

(5) Valid U.S. military photo ID;

(6) Valid tribal photo ID;

a community celebration of safe driving habits.  The event, hosted at Flowery Branch High School, emphasizes safe choices behind the wheel and the freedom that comes with getting a driver's license.

Judge Carden to retire
  

Hall County Juvenile Court Judge Mary Carden, who is retiring Dec. 6, will be honored at a reception on Nov. 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hall County Courthouse.   Judge Carden became a part time associate judge of the Hall County Juvenile Court in 1997, and served in that capacity until 2004 when she was appointed as a full time Juvenile Court Judge for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit. Prior to becoming judge, she served as an attorney with Georgia Legal Services first in the Savannah area and then in the Gainesville area for ten years. Later she spent 12 years in private practice with the firm of Deal and Jarrard, which during her tenure, merged with another firm to become Carey, Jarrard and Walker. While serving as part time juvenile judge, Judge Carden maintained a private practice largely limited to Mediation.  Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Burton will fill the seat left vacant by Judge Carden.

Hall County taxpayers should have received new property statements in the mail last month.  The newly designed bills provide more information, answer more questions, and are easier to read.  As a reminder, property taxes are due by Dec. 1.  Taxpayers are encouraged to pay by internet, mail, phone, or in person at the Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
Join Hall Co. Fire Services for the Holiday Hustle 5K!
  
Join Hall County Fire Services for the Holiday Hustle 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.  The registration fee is $25 if you register by Dec. 6.  After that, the cost is $30.  All proceeds benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.  The race begins at 9 a.m.  Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact Lt. Beverley Walker at 770-531-6838 or bwalker@hallcounty.org.
Hall Co. Clerk's Office receives perfect score on audit

The statewide "Georgia Connection Newsletter" recognized the Hall County Clerk's Office for being one of eight passport agencies in the state to receive a perfect score on their annual audit this year.  The Clerk's Office processed over 2,700 passports in 2012.  The Hall County Clerk's Offices processes passports as a service to the community and is not statutorily required to do so by law.

Hall County Human Resources Director Bill Moats recently received a volunteer award from the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Seventh District for his work on the Forsyth County Slugfest Baseball Tournament.  The Slugfest is an annual baseball tournament that raises money for local non-profits. Moats' dedication to the annual event was highlighted in the Feb. 24th issue of Forsyth County News and in a previous issue of the Hall County Newsletter. Moats organized more than 250 teams and more than 3,000 players during the weekend of March 8-10. The yearly tournament has raised over $140,000 for charities in the area, including the Miracle Network, Northside Hospital, Children's Healthcare and the Special Olympics.

Hall Co. firefighters on hand for BBQ Boots and Blues Festival

  

Join a host of restaurant vendors, musicians, and fun events for Lanier Is-lands Resort BBQ, Boots and Blues Festival on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. There is no charge for the event-- just the $10 per vehicle parking fee. Aside from delicious local vendors, there will be live music, artist tents, a Sports Center with the Atlanta Braves and Hawks fan teams, a Kids Corner and car show with Streetside Classics "Cruise-In" that will cover the event field. In addition, members of Hall County Fire Services will be on hand with fire department apparatus and to share safety information materials.  Entertainment includes: Lauren St. James; Hurricane Wilson; Drake Von Horn and Men in Blues. You can spend the day nibbling on delicious BBQ while you walk the tents filled with vendors from all over Georgia, and you can check out the old vintage cars at the car show or chat with former Braves pitcher John Rocker!  Click here for more information.
