Sheriff's Office hosts blood drive honoring flood, tornado victims
blood drive
The Hall County Sheriff's Office has teamed up with the North Georgia Detention Center and the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center, located at 610 Main Street in Gainesville on June 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 pm.  The blood drive will be in honor of those who sustained damage to their homes and property during the recent South Hall flooding event and the Moore, Okla. tornado disaster. All blood donations will benefit the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Citizens urged to sign up for alert system in light of recent disasters
citizen's alert

In light of the recent devastating tornados in Oklahoma and the severe flooding experienced in South Hall, Hall County officials are encouraging residents to sign-up for the County's Citizen's Alert System, which could be life-saving in the event of a natural disaster in their neighborhood.

With the Hall County Citizen's Alert System, County officials are able to alert residents about severe weather, fires, floods, toxic environmental issues and in-process violent crimes. Messages can be sent to individuals using a variety of contact mechanisms- cell phone, landline, email, text messaging, pager, and more - ensuring that residents and Hall County staff receive life-saving emergency information and important public service announcements in minutes.

Mobile Home Taxes
The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office is launching a renewed effort to actively monitor tax payments on mobile homes in the County.

To show that they are in compliance with the Tax Commissioner's Office, owners of mobile homes are given a decal to display on their mobile home in a location visible from the roadway. All taxes must be paid in full before the decal is obtained. The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office is working with the Hall County Marshal's Office to issue citations to mobile home owners in Hall County who are not properly displaying this decal.  More information can be found here.

Opt in to TAVT

The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office is reminding citizens that they may be eligible to opt in to the new, one-time state and local title ad valorem tax (TAVT) if they purchased a vehicle between Jan. 1, 2012 and Feb. 28, 2013.

Owners of these vehicles may be eligible to opt in to the new system, which was enacted by the Georgia General Assembly in 2012 and changed the annual vehicle ad valorem tax, often called the "birthday tax," into a state and local title ad valorem tax.   The new program took effect March 1, 2013.

These vehicle owners are not required to opt in to the new program and can continue to renew their vehicle registration by paying annual ad valorem taxes and any applicable tag fees each year on or before their birthday.  However, if a taxpayer is interested in transferring to the new system, they must opt in before February 28, 2014.  To find out if you qualify to opt in to the new program and more information about TAVT, click here.

The Hall County Tax Commissioner encourages everyone to re-post this information in public places to better inform the community at large.

Sheriff's Office hosts A.D.V.A.N.C.E. summer camp for area youth

The Hall County Sheriff's Office's A.D.V.A.N.C.E. Summer Camp will be held June 10-14.  A.D.V.A.N.C.E. (Avoiding Drugs, Violence, and Negative Choices Early) is a program for fifth graders in Hall County Schools that places an emphasis on development of social competence, conflict resolution, and positive alternatives to drugs, violence, cyber-bullying, and gangs. In addition, informational lessons on personal safety, stranger-danger, internet safety, and water safety are facilitated through the fifth-grade curriculum.  Building upon the foundation of the A.D.V.A.N.C.E. program in the schools, the A.D.V.A.N.C.E. annual summer camp is provided to over 250 young people each year free of charge. To date, over 2,700 children have attended this program. Principals have selected students to attend the camp.  This year's camp will be exciting for the students as field trips will include a cookout and public safety display at Laurel Park, a field trip to the Atlanta Zoo and a graduation party at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Waterpark.  More information can be found here.
