A group of high school students from Bedford, New Hampshire were in Hall County last month to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity on a home that's being rehabilitated through the County's Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

The program uses grant funds to purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed homes and then sell them to new owners, stabilizing neighborhoods and getting properties back onto the tax digest in the process.

The 14 students from New Hampshire have spent the past several days working on an NSP home on Black Drive. They've built a privacy fence, painted walls and ceilings and completed general repairs on the home.  Read more here.

The Hall County Government Scholars' Academy is underway!  Particpants have spent time learning about the County's administration and finances, the Sheriff's Office and jail and the Hall County Court System.  The 9-week course is designed to educate citizens about their local government and give them the opportunity to offer feedback about the County's operations and services.  If you're interested in participating in next year's Government Scholars' Academy, email Hall County Public Information Officer Katie Crumley at kcrumley@hallcounty.org.

May is National Drug Court Month

Each year, Drug Courts around the country celebrate National Drug Court Month by holding special graduations and community events, issuing proclamations and launching awareness campaigns to highlight their incredible benefit to the community. Last May, hundreds of Drug Court stories appeared on TV, in print and online. The theme this year is "Drug Courts: A Proven Budget Solution", and it is quite appropriate considering Governor Deal's push towards reducing prison costs by supporting accountability courts. For more information about the National Association of Drug Court Professionals or National Drug Court Month, please click here.

Hall County Drug Court will acknowledge National Drug Court Month at its May graduation on Friday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
