Burning yard debris
Plan now to burn all of your yard debris (leaves, tree limbs, etc.) prior to April 30. From May 1 through Sept. 30, open burning in Hall County and 49 other counties will not be allowed. If you wish to burn this month, call 770-536-2442 to get a residential burn permit number. If you need a land clearing permit, call 770-531-6838, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If you are burning illegal materials or you are burning during the burn ban, you will receive a citation from the Hall County Fire Marshal's Office. Fines range from $100-$1000 and/or up to 30 days in jail.

Buy tickets now for Hawgin' on Lanier Concert to benefit the Animal Shelter
Tickets are available for Hawgin' on Lanier's Jimmy Buffett tribute band concert, benefiting the Hall County Animal Shelter. The concert will be held Friday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Laurel Park. "Pirates of the Opry" will perform at the park's amphitheater and barbecue will be provided by the Gainesville Jaycees. Tickets are $15 for admission or $300 for a table of eight, which includes dinner. Government Scholars' Academy kicks off this month
The Hall County Government Scholars' Academy begins April 9 with an opening night dinner at the Hall County Government Center. Representatives of Hall County Government, including Hall County Administrator Randy Knighton, Tax Commissioner Darla Eden and Finance Director Vickie Neikirk, will talk with the group about their particular department and the current challenges facing Hall County. Public Information Meeting scheduled for proposed South Hall park
Hall County Parks and Leisure Services will hold a Public Information Meeting on the proposed Cherokee Bluffs Park on April 15. The meeting is scheduled to take place between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Mulberry Creek Community Center. Anyone requesting additional information is asked to contact Hall County Parks and Leisure Services at 770-535-8280. |
Stock up for spring at Plant EXPO
The Hall County Master Gardeners, the volunteer arm of the Cooperative Extension, will have its semi-annual Plant EXPO on April 5-6. The "Spring's Greatest 2-Day Plant Sale in Georgia" features an extensive selection of Southern plant vendors, garden art and products, informative seminars, a children's booth and lots of door prizes.

Hall County's HR Director makes local news for charitable work
Hall County Human Resources Director Bill Moats was the man behind last month's Forsyth County Slugfest, an annual baseball tournament that raises money for local non-profits. Moats' dedication to the annual event was highlighted in the Feb. 24th issue of Forsyth County News. Moats organized more than 250 teams and more than 3,000 players during the weekend of March 8-10. The yearly tournament has raised over $140,000 for charities in the area, including the Miracle Network, Northside Hospital, Children's Healthcare and the Special Olympics. |

Community Recycling Event at Sterling on the Lake
Sterling on the Lake is hosting a Community Recycling Event on Saturday, April 27 between 9 a.m. and noon. Get started on your spring cleaning by recycling any of the following items that will be accepted at that location on that date:
- Small/medium electronics, such as stereos, microwaves, computers, printers, blenders, vacums, etc. are accepted. TVs can be recycled for $10 each.
- An onsite commercial shredder is available for documents.
- All non-liquid prescription drugs will be accepted once the label containing personal information is removed.
- Used bedding and towels will be accepted and donated to the Hall County Animal Shelter.
- Used paints or stains can be recycled and reformulated for the following prices: Latex paints: $5/gallon; Oil Base/Stains: $6/gallon; All pints: $2/pint
- Gently used books or magazines
- Wine corks
- Any toner or ink cartridges
- Bottle or jar tops of all sizes
- Any fabric (bolts, remnants or scrap) |
District 2 Public Health hosting screening of healthcare movie
District 2 Public Health and Brenau University will host a screening of the video: ESCAPE FIRE: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare at Brenau University's Thurmond-McRae Auditorium on April 2 at 4 p.m.

Touch A Truck, benefitting the Hall County Animal Shelter, will be held at Laurel Park on May 5 from noon until 4 p.m. There is a $5 parking fee for the event.
