Las Posadas
Las Posadas

Student celebrated Las Posadas, a religious celebration commemorating Mary and Joseph's difficult journey to Bethlehem. In spanish posadas means dwelling - and the acceptance of Mary and Joseph into the innkeeper's stable for the birth of Jesus. The 6th grade students lead the school in the celebration with song and the traditional kneeling in front of the Nativity.

This week students brought in socks to donate at a local homeless shelter as their service project for the Las Posadas celebration. Over 277 pairs of socks were donated - thank you for the kind giving!

 K-4 Lunch

New procedures for the K-4 lunch ...

Several new procedures have been put in place to assure students have quality time eating.  Lunch time is exactly the same time as last year.  What has changed is the following:

once students have their lunch they stay seated while eating until the first bell rings at 12:20.  At that time any student who has finished can begin to clean up and get their coats, mittens, etc.  They then remain in the cafeteria but line up along the walls (instead of the hallway) so that they are continually under adult supervision.  Around 12:22 the teachers come into the cafeteria and meet their students.  If all are there and ready to go to the classroom they are dismissed.  At 12:25 the final call is made for all of the remaining students to clean up, get their things and go to their classrooms.  These changes have the students eating more of their food and there is less waste.  (Middle school students are monitoring the waste for a school project so watch for updates on how we are doing.)

New Cafeteria Trays!

New lunch trays are being introduced on Monday!  Thanks to the Bob Crumley memorial donation we were able to purchase new lunch trays for all of our students.  The trays are in the school colors of dark blue and dark green.  A plaque is being hung in the cafeteria which reads, 'In memory of the years of service Bob Crumley gave to Our Lady of Peace School."

Activities

Arc's Value Village

Arc's Value Village is coming up on what is historically the busiest time of the year for receiving donations.  On the last days of December, the number of donors typically increases dramatically as people make one last trip to the Value Village donation drive-thru to donate and collect a tax receipt for 2012.

Volunteers are needed December 29, 30 and 31 at Arc's Value Village in Richfield to help donors unload their cars, thank each donor and hand each donor a tax receipt.  Can you spare a couple of hours before you head out to your holiday & New Year's Eve celebrations?

Available Volunteer shifts:

Saturday, December 29 - 10am-12pm, 12-2pm, 2-4pm and 4-6pm

Sunday, December 30 - 10am-12pm, 12-2pm, 2-4pm and 4-6pm

Monday, December 31 - 10am-12pm, 12-2pm, 2-4pm and 4-6pm

This is an outdoor project so you would need to bundle up in your winter gear-coats, mittens, gloves, hats and boots are a must!  Refreshments will be provided indoors for volunteers to take breaks and warm up.

If you can help, contact Molly at volunteernow@arcgreatertwincities.orgor (952) 915-3652 to sign up.

Thank you for supporting The Arc!  Happy Holidays!

Whate'er I do, things great or small
Whate'er I speak or frame.

Do all in Jesus' name.

My Father, for His sake I pray.
Thy child accept and bless
And lead me by Thy grace to-day
In paths of righteousness. Amen.
